I just drove mine 6500kms from Toronto to LA for the winter and about to head back up. I am sure i will hit some shiit weather but i got my snows on and its part of the adventure. I used to store my 993 because its crap to drive in the winter but a 997 is a joy
In the 997 Group I see a lot of european owners put their car away for the winter.

I dont but as always with Rennlist you tend to get the more "obsessive" owner group. Outside of this group people drive them all the time as they treat them as modes of transportation. I love driving my car so i drive it - dont care about rusty bolts

Anyways store it you want to, it will just make a better pool for me to choose from when it comes time for me to buy another one!

They are fantastic winter cars so OP dont hesitate to take advantage of that.

First winter with my 997, and this was the most enjoyable one so far in terms of commuting. I used alternate transportation for the worst 4 days but drove in light snow, slush, and plenty of very cold days dry and wet on AS tires. I know I'll get some corrosion and possibly other hopefully minor issues, but it is a car.

I've always driven everything in winter - from Porsches up to and including a Lotus Exige S. I've also invariably found that driving in winter teaches you about the car and gives you access to a different aspect of the car's personality and capabilities.

Good winter tires are a must - and depending on where you live, I strongly recommend washing the car / motorcycle at least weekly.

Yes. It is very good on the snow.
Colorado uses Mag Chloride rather than normal road salt. The underbody needs a good washing soon, but this stuff isn't as corrosive as salt used in other places.

I drive mine in the winter. It just needs cold rated screenwash and decent tyres - I run Nokian Hakkapeliitta7s. I also have a DEFA engine block heater and trickle charger, so it's quick to start up.

They reverted to using salt back in 2016. Depending on the conditions, it's sand, a sand/salt mixture, salt brine, and/or mag chloride.

I have a lot of faith in German corrosion protection and a good power wash.

Where did you get block heater and is install straightforward? I'd like to get one for the sub 20 degree weather.

Hmmm... That might explain some of the days I was driving in near 0 temps with liquid water on the the highway this winter. Guess I missed that news.

We have a 4S, but have yet to purchase a set of winter tires and wheels (2 winters now). I fear sand and broken windshields more than anything, besides, we have a Jeep and a 4WD truck. I don’t rule out ever getting set up for winter, but...

Henrik, yes, I am in Finland. Hello neighbour. DEFA is not a standard fit, and you need to order what you want: I got a nice kit including the engine block heater, interior fan heater and battery trickle charger (so that it always starts, and I don't need to worry about the battery (I have a standalone DEFA SmartCharge for the other car, boat etc,). On my other car, I was an idiot and only got the basic block heater....

C4SDayton: DEFA are readily available around here; I had my independent order and install. I have no idea if or where they might be sold in North America, but presumably they are available (try defa.com for your local distributors maybe?). I don't think that the tech had any particular issues, save the need for much longer cables than usual as I have the plug installed at the front of the car (inside right of the middle air intake, where it can't be seen) and the engine block is obviously at the other end of the car (!).

Default 18 or 19

Hi Guys,
Is there a big difference between 18 or 19 winter tires ?
Thanks.
