calling exhaust experts- current setup TOO LOUD and a little blatty

So after buying my 2005 Carrera, i wasn't in love with the sound, it was meh to me with windows up. Windows up its kinda blatty and loud. Getting under the car the last few days clarifies what I have which is NHP headers, race pipe (no cats) and Agency power cans with OEM 3.6 lyr tips. My dissatisfaction is both the sound and volume. If it sounded exotic but loud that is ok but it just sounds bad to me.
The question is what would be the first step to dial back the volume and potentially improve the sound from the forum? replace race pipe with -------? Change the tips to dual tips? HELP!

Phil from Fabspeed here.
Adding cats in an x-pipe would really improve the sound. I would quiet it down a little and give you a deeper throatier sound.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I do love the way mine sounds. I've got Borla headers(discontinued), AWE cats (crossover type, no X-Pipe) and Borla mufflers(discontinued). In my opinion it sounds amazing, not terribly loud putting around town, but when you get on it, it really opens up nicely. The only downside is that it drones a bit above 75Mph - Personally I can look past the drone because it sounds so darn awesome otherwise, and it doesn't bother my artillery deafened ears anyway.

This thread has a lot of different things going on in it - only thread I've found with different exhaust sounds for a 997.

my posts are #26 and #30. lots of examples there!

Phil is right, and an expert. Add some cats.

Yep, I agree.

The NHP header design is actually pretty good. I assume the mufflers are decent. What you're missing are the cats, and the X-cat design has advantages over the crossover cats.

Get the 200 cell versions and I think you'll be where you want to. I have them on my 997 along with the rest of a Fabspeed system and am very happy with the sound - exotic and not "blatty" at all.

The tips don't effect the sound much, if at all.

LOL, just saw this reply. Sort of a farty blap, blap blap on overrun or fronm a standing start where the clutch is feathered a bit like on an incline or grade in traffic which there is a lot of around here in the DC Metro.

You might consider 200 cel cats and the valved exhaust from Soul Performance Products. High quality, great service.

Valves Closed = Mild, a little lower & deeper than stock. Neighborhood friendly.
Valves Open = Watkins Glen exhilaration!

Thanks. I like their stuff but pricey. My car came to me with a Frankenstein setup- pieced together from a few different brands. Decent quality but the catless pipes puts me louder than the sport setting-valves open- ALL the time. With the headers and agency power mufflers I have, adding the 200 cell cats should do it. Ive got an AWE 200 cell cross pipes to put on soon so fingers crossed..........

Look into fvd.nit very popular here but they have tons of options depending on sound level and prices. Fantastic quality
