Default What does this big plug do on the drivers side head?

I see a very small amount of what appears to be oil around it? Can it be tightened? If it could save me a trip to the dealer I would love it. What is it for?

When they machine the head, that hole provides access for the cam cap machining tools. Then during assembly, that hole provides access for the cam shaft locking tool. If there is oil, you need to replace the metal/plug inside the cap.

It would be nice to see the surrounding area a little better, but that looks like the chain tensioner for cylinders 1-3.

That is a nice clean engine! That is definitely the chain tensioner for cylinders 1-3. The torque spec is 59 ft lbs. I'm not sure if you want to remove it without first locking the crank and cams in position. I've got a locking kit if you are interested.

Ah with a bigger view, it is from the bottom and that is the chain tensioner plug.

I chickened out and took it to the dealer. They replaced the motor 300 miles ago so its really their problem.

If it's only 300 mile ago, the dealer owns that one.
