Under $25 Tablet Head Unit w/ Dension Gateway
After TONS of reading, online shopping etc., I wanted a simple solution to the old tech in my car. I'm NOT an audiophile and normally just like to hear the car. That said, when on longer road trips or family in the car, not having a Carplay/Android head unit is annoying.
The previous owner of the car had installed a Dension Gateway which I find fair at best for bluetooth. It also does not allow for Waze, Spotify, etc to show on the screen.
The tablet doesn't block any of the climate controls or interfere with the shifter.
Simple solution, an old Android tablet (7 inch), a CD mount and a simple jack to go from the tablet to the RCA input on the Dension.
Link to mount and cable.
Now I can see Waze, Spotify or whatever and it plays through the head unit. Granted, I do need to tether (wireless) it to my phone for internet but with unlimited data, who cares.
While this may not be everyone's "style" it keeps the factory unit in place and gives me many more options for infotainment. Just thought this might help someone.

That's pretty similar in concept to the retrofit Chinese/Android head units that are popular for the Cayenne. While the Android units exist for the 997, they don't seem as well integrated as for the Cayenne. I hope that changes for the better.
For my 997TT, I've opted to use the LA Power unit with a phone mount. Same setup as what you've got, just a smaller screen. It works well. I love having Pandora and Waze whenever I drive.
