ok guys, I'm eying that 2011 black 997.2. Never bought anything on BAT. Not sure what I should offer and from what I'm seeing here there's a big range.

If anyone can help me out with some questions about BAT it would be highly appreciated:
1. Can I have the car checked after winning the auction ?
2. If the the car is not in good shape can I back out of the sale ?

 

Well, this is just a fun thread to guess a BaT value on the selected car. However, if the car selected for the particular auction is one that you are thinking of bidding on, wait until we close our guesses here, which is 2 days before the actual auction ends. At that time, everybody who is playing on that particular car will have made their guess, and that will give you an idea of the range where we all think it is.

Then wait until there are about 10 minutes left in the actual auction, and "read the (virtual) room" so to speak, to see how many are interested in the car. Typically, and especially for cars having a hi interest, the final 2 minutes is where a big swing upwards in value/price can occur. I've seen it go 50% and higher in those final 2 minutes. So if you want the car, and it looks like it will be in a range you find acceptable, wait for those final 2 minutes to jump in and bid. Also, stick to your guns (budget) and don't forget to add buyer's premium and shipping into the true cost to you. I bid on and won at a very good price a 2012 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca last year on BaT. It is fun, and can be a great way to get a great car.

Also, get the car checked first if you can - at least try to get someone local put eyes on it for you. You can back out of the sale, but you will forfeit your buyer's premium, and be banned from BaT.

 

I believe the answers are 1. Yes. 2. No.

The statistician in me says the value will be the mean of all the guesses (wisdom of the crowd and all that), or the mean of the best guessers (4-5-6X winners).

 

Linderpat's advice is good...very carefully look at the photos as large as possible...not on your phone. Read any docs and the comments and wait till the last minute (making sure you are properly registered to bid).
