I would check the top portion of the engine towards the cylinder heads.

Diagnostic came back today = HPFP failure. And actually was hard to start the day I took it in due to the low bars.
I was told that can come on quick from leak to outright fail on the pump.
Wish it woulda happened while my CPO was in effect last summer.
Dang.

Try to get them to goodwill it. I had one covered under goodwill and I know a couple of others on here did as well.

So was that fuel or oil?

Your area of concern was similar to the issue I had when I purchased my car. It was actually a combination of two failures. The first failure was the air oil separator which increased oil pressure in the crankcase. The second failure was an intake manifold gasket. These issues resulted in oil actually coming out of the failed gasket, dripping down the engine, and creating (at the time) what seemed like a bottom end oil leak.

Just something to consider.

No it was definitely oil - because as it was explained to me - the HPFP is driven off the camshaft thru an orifice in the motor and bolted on in several places. So in my case the inner seals seemed to have failed in the pump causing the pump to systematically fail, meanwhile then creating a failed seal between the block and bolted areas causing the visual leak. I've not seen the failed pump yet, but I asked them to save it.

The car also displayed the hard start issues commonly told by owners when their HPFP failed to build immediate pressure.

This is at an Indy shop - because since I got the car 2 years ago, every experience at the "Stealership" has been less than enjoyable on my wallet. Like $190 for a $9 brake sensor....whaa?
So not sure what recourse I have though expect to write a msg to PCNA-Atlanta for an opinion on the good-will notion mentioned above.

Here is photo from Pelican of that part to help visualize.

And this is a reason why I have not adopted any cars of any make with Direct Injection. BMW seems to take 10 years to figure out the HPFP robustness. I think Porsche will take just as long. I prefer my 997.1 with its old fashion 100 psi fuel pump.

You mean to tell me the hpfp is the reason you chose a car?

Yes. The Porsche one seems to be easier to replace than the BMW ones.
Perhaps when they get to be 20 years old technology and bullet proof, then I'll reconsider.
