Default Can a 997 Key be re-programmed for my car

WIth the understanding the I would need a new key blade cut to my ignition, can a key from a another 997 (complete with transponder pill and circuit board) be reprogrammed to my car at the dealer? I've searched by can't see to get a clear answer on this.

Some say yes.
Some say no.

I'm in the middle of this process also.

Not that you asked, but since I just purchased a new key at the dealer, here is the dealer price breakdown for my dealer:

997-637-103-03 AS KEY HEAD 238.93
997-538-931-00 BASE KEY DEF 169.86

Labor charge 1 hour @ 155.00

Not sure where the cost to cut it was built into, but it isn't listed separate.

$564 all-in for one new key? I can see why people go for the DIY eBay body swaps.

There is no DIY. Programming requires PIWIS with online access to Porsche's database of VIN specific immobilizer codes. The offline only Chinese PIWIS clones cannot do it.

The best DIY you can do is transplant the RFID "pill" from your current key fob to the new one. But you lose the functionality of your old fob.

can you buy the key off suncoast and bring it to the dealership for programing? I recently lost a key and need to replace my spare.

I bought it from suncoast and my local dealer will not use it. They do not do anything with parts brought in by customer. Needless to say I won't be going back to them for anything

Yea, that's just their way of making more money. Not all Porsche dealerships are like that, especially now that online purchasing is an all time high. But in my experience, Porsche won't reprogram used keyfobs. If you purchase the Porsche key online, make sure you keep the bar code and proof of purchase. Just my advise to save yourself a headache and wasted time.

Bought my car with one key. For the second key I bought a key blank on line and had a local shop cut it. The blank plus cutting was $62.00. My local dealer said they would not program a fob bought elsewhere but that they would price match from any Porsche dealer. So I brought in the price of a fob from Suncoast and they price matched it (added shipping to that number) and charged me an additional $110 for programming. All in was $353.00.
