PCM 2.1 Retrofit Help
Can you just plug and play a PCM 2.1 with Nav and Bose amp into a car that didn't come equipped with Nav/Bose? If not both can you just install the PCM 2.1 with Nav into a car that didn't come with it?

My 997 came with the BOSE system but not the NAV, and since I thought it would be easy I decided to add it... this is what I started with:
PCM Codes:
SW version 1.0
PCM: 04202JD1 / 3004 (Model Level A)
System Software: 4113AD1 / 1104
Amplifier: 00017500 / 3504
NAV System:
CD Changer: C38 / 3003
Phone:
Then I added the NAV unit and a LA Unit for AUX port, I wanted the AUX port for my iPod and ended up with:
PCM Codes:
SW version 1.0
PCM: 04202JD1 / 3004 (Model Level A)
System Software: 4113AD1 / 1104
Amplifier: 00017500 / 3504
NAV System: 00179412 / 5004
CD Changer: C38 / 3003
Phone: C32 / 2702
And I found that I couldn't get the AUX port to work (you have to bypass the CD Changer) but the Blu-Tooth worked for the phone so I settled for that.
I did some research and found that the newest MAPS would not work with my current software (Firmware) so I decided to do the Update:
Map Update for PCM 2.1 units - 05024xxx ==> Model Level B or 05395xxx ==> Model Level C
Part Number:997-044-904-51
Replaces:000-044-900-89, 955-044-900-08, 955-044-903-61, 997-044-902-51, 997-044-903-5
And now I have this:
PCM Codes:
SW version 3.0
PCM: 05024AD1 / 0205 (Model Level B)
System Software: 04514BD1 / 5104
Amplifier: 00017500 / 3504
NAV System: 00179436 / 3306
CD Changer: C38 / 3003
Phone: C32 / 2702
...and the system works , for the most part. from time to time the NAV acts up and either does not track Satellites or the DVD drive becomes unreadable then it works again. What can I say it is 13 year old technology.
The last thing you need to do (I find it optional) is have the added hardware added to the PCM register that is accomplished by using the PIWIS coding tool. I don't have one, the dealership I took my car to said they did it but it still shows up as not expected but found.
And after it was all said and done and with great reflection for the amount of money I spent (just over $1K) for the DVD unit, antenna, updated maps, firmware updates, and the time it took to install .... I would just get one of the newest Garmin Drive 60 units for about $150.00 and use the left over money for gas exploring places not included on the Porsche MAP set.
So in a long winded way of answering your question... Yes, you can add it.
I almost forgot to mention for the NAV you have to have the Radio Navigation Head Unit 997.642.141.10 - NON BOSE if you have the one with the video screen, if you don't have the video screen head unit then you have one of these: Radio Head Unit 997.645.128.05 or 997.645.128.06 (CDR24) - No Phone/Video Screen, and then you would need to get one.
Anyway, I hope that helps.

I found my cables (Antenna and Cable) and the Fiber Optic Lines and Loops from eBay.
Sometimes you can find them as individual parts or as a set.
The Parts: Listed for the 911 but should work with the 987
GPS Antenna: part # 997 642 105 00
GPS/DVD Connecting Line: part # 997 612 060 25 (antenna cable)
Use your favorite internet search for the part numbers and you should find them listed ...
Best of luck
