$50k budget...997.1 S or c4s vs CPO m3/4

BMWs have gone away from the ultimate driving machine. Many would argue that ended with the E46 gen (for a 3 series), although I was still ok with the E92. The new cars are much more luxurious but just lost that traditional BMW feel. This conversation brought back memories. I hate how BMW treated me years ago but deep down I had good memories with my E46. I might go hunt for a well kept E46 330ci coupe

Php, if going that route get zhp.
ETL330, I know from personal history. BMW's will give you lust. 911 will give you orgasm. Every. Time. You drive it. Simple decision. Either .1 or .2. Get one.

If you test drive both, I think your answer will become apparent very quickly.

I had a 128i M Sport which I loved. I can see where you're going about the 1M. I still want one of those.
But I mostly commented to mention your car build. Holy crap. 2200lb car with a 997 GT3 Cup engine in it. Just by the numbers that sounds like it would verge on the fun side of terrifying. Awesome.

997.1 C4S
I was in the same situation and at the end of my quest i located a beautiful all original very well optioned 997.1 C4s and I have not looked back . All the 997.1 fears are minimal at best and I have been enjoying mine ever since. Besides I did not want to settle on a base model with minimal options, and I had to have a wide bodied car.... That's just me but for 50k you can have all that in a 997.1...

The only BMW I would buy right now would be a E46 M3 LSB 6 Speed Slick Top! Unicorn car for me. I've had plenty of BMW's prior and you simply cannot compare BMW to Porsche IMHO. It's a night and day difference. Once you get in a Porsche, I don't see how you can go back!

Had the same inner conversation and ultimately decided on a 997.1 C2S. Always liked M3s, but unlike the 911, I never had a poster of one on my wall as a kid. I paid $45k 3 years ago for a super clean, 30k mile, 6spd with full leather and it’s been the best car purchse I’ve ever made. Been rock solid and I still go out to the garage at night just to look at it for a minute or two. There is something “special” about how these cars drive that I just didn’t feel in the M3/S4/Corvette/you name it ~$50k sports cars that I drove prior to purchasing.

Thanks guys. Sorry I fell behind on responding to all the great responses, but this is really kind of what I needed to hear. It’d be nice to drive one locally but nice ones popping up for sale here in Denver seem
few and far between. 4s would be nice, but realistically it won’t be driven in winter.

weather is bad this weekend, but if we can figure out a time when it dries out, I’d be happy to give you a tour of mine and let you take it for a spin. I live up in the Erie area. PM me and we can work it out.
