Default Nothing ever goes right

I had the day off work today. Started a job I have been planning for 2 years. I have a 2009 cab. And before that had a 996 cab which I traded on a whim for a Macan. So I have lots of extra parts. Including a hard top. So 2 years ago I bought the brackets

Today I would install them. Removed back panel. Perfect. Put top in service position. Check. Removed read carpet. No problem. Removed piece that covers the roll bars. Simple. Removed plastic brackets.

Only mistake I made was I thought the limit switch for the flap was the rear defroster. Broke an unimportant plastic tab.

Put it all back together and though to myself, I have never, ever, had a job go so smoothly. I did not ruin or break anything.

Then I put the top all the way down.

The middle roof rail somehow got on the wrong side of the flap and broke the top off the flap. Also bent the flap motor support so the flap will not go flat.

2 hours later I figured out how to fix it. Now I just need a few parts.

Best of luck, had many repairs go this way.

It's just a matter of parts (and time) and you'll be good to go.

It's part of the DIY experience. It is a stress reliever working on your cars despite some minor set backs.

Back it today

I think I'm leaving the rear carpet off. The exposed mechanical look is kind of cool

I also figured out why my top, and I bet all 997 tops, wear on certain places and 996 tops dont

Done. All good. Don't know what the heck happened. Took everything apart and put it back together. Had to take the side flap off and on. But all good

Except scratched the fabric on the side flap. And probably have to buff the side of the car where I was leaning over.

But the scratch on the side flap is only the second defect on the entire car. So not too bad in a 10 year old car.

Now to for the top...

Lol, is that what you call it . . . stress reliever? Somehow, someway it usually goes the opposite direction for me.

I've owned several convertibles with the mechanical lift systems and when they act up, it's never fun or convenient. Ever have one not want to close during rain downpour? Personally, there are many things I would do myself, but not these complicated systems. If it's not a cable or something, I'm getting the specialists involved. I replaced a convertible top recently at the tune of $2000. Money well spent. These guys knew what they were doing and not only did they install the top, but they also tested and calibrated the mechanical parts and serviced the hydraulic system for that price.

I'm fairly fluent in top trouble shooting now.

But in the next year or two I will need a top. Where did you get it done?
