Brake Pads

Brake Pads
I have a 2006 997 C4. The old owner put 981 Cayman S brakes on the front. OE's are on the rear. I want to put new pads on both front and back. I do not track the car at all so I am just looking for a good low-dust (no squeal) pads. Suggestions much appreciated.

How many miles do you have on the car?
Several folks have gone to a 'ceramic' pad of sorts to deal with reducing the dust.
(I'm still on my OEM factory-installed pads, and still going strong at 112,600 miles)

I only have a few thousand on them so far. There is less dust and it's also a lighter color so it's less noticable. I can't comment on the longativity of the pads as I don't have too many miles on them yet.

I talked to Porsche recently about the cost of brake service on these cars. They said to budget between $3,000 and $4,000 for the job on the average Carrera. What?! Is that pretty consistent with other Porsche service centers? I thought my BMW was expensive!

Good god no. Rotors are about 85 bucks a piece for a good quality rotor or at worst $150 a piece. Pads you can get from $150 per axle to around $250 per axle. You could do all 4 corners pads, rotors and fluid for $800 in parts to $1100 in parts and it shouldnt be more than 2 hours of labor for all 4 corners.

I’ll add to this: my 997 was the easiest brake job I’ve ever done. It took more time to jack the car up and remove the wheels than to change the rotors and pads.
Replacing rotors and pads sounds very intimidating, but like Mike said...it is an easy job. Best part of the job is "bedding" the new pads.

Correct. That was a misleading comment for this discussion because of the PCCBs on his car. Though PCCBs have "Ceramic" in the name, were talking about iron rotors here with Ceramic pads, not Carbon Ceramic rotors and their corresponding pads.

I'm changing my rears for the first time at 116K miles. It will be my second go for fronts.
I've got a friend who takes the momentum car driving concept to a different level when entering turns. I know if I see his brake lights it's time to panic!!! It looks like he may manage 120K on his fronts and more on his rears.
Both cars are 2010 C4Ss with iron brakes.
On line for OEM parts with all sensors and hardware was just under $1100 with tax and shipping. Brake fluid for the flush (Motul 600) brings it to just over $1100.
A dealer will mark those parts to double and bill multi hours for the work. Costs add up.
Yes, this is a very easy job (at least on the fronts, I haven't done the rears yet).
