By rare and desirable models you of course mean the Carrera 4 Cabs, correct? There were only 2000 made over the run of the 997.2. I think it is because of the combination of AWD for winter AND a convertible top, two things that go together like peanut butter and honey.

Take it from someone who has been pondering a 997 for a couple of years, prices are definitely up, even while the general classic Porsche market has gone up then down. Good low mile TT s here in the UK are selling for (not just asking) 20% more than in 2014-2015. GTS still strong though not as strong as some asking prices.
The exception is 997.2 GT3 RS and RS 4.0 which have slipped back in the last 12 months due to 911R slipping back due to new GT3 RS manual and more to come.
Will a late 997 with great spec be like a similar 993? Who knows..but I hope to buy one soon to join the club. A really nice manual C2 GTS cabrio sold within a couple of days from a main dealer here this month, and this is at a time when the market in general is super slow.
