PCM sound
I bought a 2009 from an auction knowing there was no sound from the radio. When looking at the center display for audio is first says audio unknown source. If I change the source but on the PCM the center display says audio off. The mute symbol is off on the PCM. Does anyone have any ideas where I could start?
I also pulled the fuses per a diagram I found on for resetting the PCM but that didn't work.

I dunno...... I suspect either a failure of the head unit or amplifier, or a botched re-install after an aftermarket system was pulled out. I am unaware of any secret button pushes that resets the 997.2, PCM3 system. You could disconnect the battery for a bit and see if that has and affect.
What displays in the dashboard (through the steering wheel) when you cycle through for PCM functions such as radio station and navigation? Maybe the original owner had an aftermarket system in there and just plopped the old back in without fully hooking it up. Does your door speakers denote "Bose"? If so, then look under your passenger seat... there should be an electronics box in there the size of a paper-back book.... that is the amplifier and digital processor... all speaker cables terminate in there. Check in the front trunk for evidence of screw holes in the liner that would indicate an after-market amplifier.
After all of that, I would go to a good aftermarket stereo shop (who has direct, hands-on experience with the 997.2) and have them look it over and try to figure it out... not a dealer (yet). If the issue is a result of an aftermarket install, then you can go over the options with them. If it looks like the unit just failed, then you have two options..... just go to the dealer and pay..... or remove the head unit (and maybe amplifier under the seat) and ship to Becker repair in NJ...... and pay. If you are not mechanically inclined to do the removals, then have the stereo shop do it all for you. Of course they can recommend a complete aftermarket system... plenty on these forums about that one.... warning: 997.2 is an odd animal.... good luck.
If you go to a dealer and not an aftermarket shop, the first thing they will do (I am just guessing here) is hook up the Porsche computer to diagnose. Then they may remove the unit..... If they determine the unit failed, they will order you a new one, install it, and configure the system using their computer... and you will pay big dollars.
Becker web site: http://www.beckerautosound.com/ looks like they have used units for sale.... will have to see a dealer about "turning on" the system using the Porsche computer.... must match the unit to the car's computer.

Thanks for the starting suggestions. I will probably have a few months before I can get back to it.
I tried to describe what I saw when I cycled through the in dash display with the stalk on the steering column. Basically, it initially says something like unknown audio source. I cycled though the source buttons on the PCM and then the in dash display says audio off. It does have Bose speakers.

It would be likely cheaper and simpler to replace the PCM3.0 with an aftermarket head unit and fitment kit. The Bose amp under the passenger seat can also be replaced with modern, small amplifiers and leaving the factory speakers in place. Of if it is good, there are MOST bridges and HUR kits that will allow it to work with an aftermarket head unit.
The PCM 3 has a mechanical hard drive in it, more of a when rather if it will fail.

Just a point of reference. 2916 Macan S with PCM 3.1. Exact same symptoms. Phone call to dealer and they never heard of that. Thought was going to be $3700 for a new PCM. Took up for a diagnosis and just needed a new battery.
Sorry. It's a 2016 not a 2916 Macan. Car battery. OEM car battery was a little over 2 years old and one day the audio screen on the gauges (similar but newer to the lower center gauge display) it said "audio off". And there was no sound. That is what the dealer never heard of that. They never saw the car say "audio off". New car battery and all good.

I think I found out why there is no sound.

Now I need to figure out how I can proceed. Manual says something is to be uploaded from the PWIS before replacing. Can I just get another amp from a recycler and install it?

Now I'm looking for more help. I received an amp which I was told was compatible with my 997.2 but I am not sure. Can someone shoot me a picture of a Bose amp setup under their passenger seat. The amp I received is not on the list on the PET (997 645 441 01 or 997 645 442 00) for 2009-2012 997s. The main harness and a smaller harness connect but the amp has three connections and my car only has two connectors. Additionally, I am not sure of the orientation of the amp under the seat. The mounting holes don't match and when I place it in loosely it seems that the seat hits it when I move the seat all the way down and forward.
Checked and found the amp that was sent is for a 2005-2008 997. They didn't give me the part number before I bought it but said it was for a 2009 997. Now I have to return it and start over. Frustrating, but I knew I should expect some of this.
