When will 997 prices drop?

When will 997 prices drop?
I've started exploring the used 997 market and am looking to purchase a 997.2 C2S/coupe/manual in the next 6 months or so.
My question is: Will the release of the 992 cause 997 prices to drop soon after? If so, when should I expect there to be a price drop: on the release date in November, once the 992s actually start getting delivered, or even later than that?
I'd certainly be OK waiting a few extra months if the release of a new model this year can save me some money.
What do people think?

I'm doubtful that a new release will affect prices. If you want a bargain wait for the seasonal shift that occurs as winter approaches.

992 will have zero impact on 997 prices. None at all.
If anything, waiting for 997.2 prices to drop is only going to make the supply of cars lower while the demand for 997.2 cars stays relatively static. Same demand, less supply.. you do the math.

I had this same question when I was looking for my car, 997.2, and I was along the same thought process you are on. I came to the realization that 997.2 cars are the coveted models due to a lot of things. 991’s not so much even though they are newer. Just make your list of what you want and have the cash on hand to jump on it quickly when it hits the market. Also be willing to go wherever the car is located, mine was 1700 miles from home. Great drive home though. Prices are actually going to start to climb as we go into Spring shortly.

Nobody could predict these things. See what happened to the 993 for example.
Personally, I think prices will continue to drop at a slow pace, not necessarily because of newer model launches, but rather due to age and technology. The argument for prettier lines / hydraulic steering / NA engine purism only works if there are a few of them out there, but the world has a lot of 997's.
But in 6 months, prices will not have changed yet.

997.2 was during the economic downturn. Compared to the 997.1 there were less than half of them made. Simple supply and demand. There just isn’t a great supply of them out there.

Havent yet seen anything that that makes a 992 anybetter than a 991.2. Sofar, i dont see any effect that way. The nice examples of best models with the "best" options and low mileage will remain valuable, IMO.

the bloated, remote 991/2 form factor has many yearning for smaller tighter more tossable form factor 911's
really well kept cars shd maintain value well imo
a drive in them back to back exposes the obvious

You missed it but 997.2 6 speed's are hot right now. They are not going to drop regardless of the 992 release. It's the goldilocks of the 911, not too big, not too small, reliable and of course, the most common catch phrase, "the last of the" as most Porsche owners like to put it. There's not many available for sale compared several years ago. Every so often, one will list for a good price and sell immediately. Most of them will have dreamer's prices and sit until the dealership lowers the price.

In the latest issue of Total 911 magazine, they say that the 997.2 is possibly the finest generation of ALL 911s. The fact that not too many where made will only help their value in the long term IMO.
Here’s a pic of the article:
