A 2005 997 C2S cab pops up on one of my search engines (I’ve been looking for a bit). Literally the exact specs I want down to the color combo. I shoot them an email asking if the car was still available. They respond yes with an explanation on why the car is so cheap. This is an optioned 997 C2S with 29,000 miles and asking....ready??? $29k. Wow, right? Anyway they explain they want a cash deal and just trying to move the car. Many beautiful pictures of the car are attached along with the carfax. Carfax is pretty clean except a “possible clerical error” with the mileage in 2008 or so. Not sure what that means but a small red flag. The next red flag is I cannot find the dealer selling the car on the internet. I have reached out to them to have a phone conversation and waiting now for a call back. The other twist is, this is about 1200 miles from home. I have no problem flying there and driving home but, really cannot get a PPI because i don’t know anyone in Florida. So folks.....what would you do here?
It can be done this way. This is how I've done it in the past.
However. I'd be extra cautious with the combination of possible records discrepancy, florida car, cheap price, and seller who wants to do a cash deal and move the car. Its not any one of those things in isolation, its the combination of those factors. If the car is priced more than a couple thousand differently than comparable cars I'd be even more skeptical. A Porsche 911 is not a car where a "great deal" is something to rush out and grab. More than likely this great deal is the beginning of your heartache and the end of someone elses. Not to say it can't exist..
That's where I am. If you want I could take a look at it for you, but I'm not equipped to do a PPI. For that I recommend KMW Motorsports (Kevin Wheeler). He's in Boca too. http://www.kmwmotorsports.com/ 561-392-3020

I would be very careful here. I agree with bst. I wouldn't send a penny until a trusted rennlist member puts actual eyes on it and talks with the owner in person. A low miles S cab for $29K is pretty far below market IMHO, but high enough to sound possibly legit. I'd want to see the title before giving any money, and run a VIN check too (try Google and see if anything pops up). Really don't want to read about a scam thread in a few weeks from now!
973 is a NJ phone area code.... just saying. Ask Ralph where the car is located. If its in Central Florida I will recommend you my Indie shop to do the PPI.
I wouldn't send a cent to this person before seeing the car in flesh.
<div style="text-align:left;">I have been emailing a guy whose company address says Boca Raton Florida. Maybe another red flag. How about the fact he hasn’t called me back yet… Two hours ago… Maybe that’s another red flag.</div>
NJ cell# is not an issue, lots of ppl here have NJ or NY cells. But I looked at the pics and enlarged them on my laptop...couple things...one, it has heated seats which are not typical for cars sold in this market unless it was a special order. Yet it doesn't have a bracket or holes for a front plate, so probably wasn't a NY or NJ car unless it's been patched. Does the Carfax show where the car was first titled? How many owners? Also I can see the temp and fan switches look raggedy, which happens to some. There are ways to fix it but would need to be done if it bothers you. Another thing, when I enlarge the pic of the instrument cluster I can read everything but the odo. Can't see the figures. Not sure if they blurred it out or if the LCD display is messed up.
