OK so I had not heard of a magnet being involved in the mechanism and that explains why🙂 I spent quite a while checking posts and YouTubes with anything related to door window behaviours and came to the conclusion it must have something to do with a microswitch. I had one go bad in my glovebox light which I thankfully fixed and I did find a YouTube of a guy who replaced the external door handle microswitch to good effect so I’ve got the switch and it’s wiring loom ready for another bout of home mechanics 🙄. I just happened to see the reference’s to the internal door handle alignment and thought that may have been the culprit but it would seem not. I just hope it’s not the motor change that was highlighted as that’s something I don’t think my good lady would Wellcome as I’ve just had the soft top replaced!
