New 997 Member - Went from 964 to 997
Hello fellow 997 owners.
Just a brief intro on me and my new to me 2006 997S. I was exposed to Porsche's when my father came home in a really cool yellow 68 Porsche 912. That 912 was purchased from Vasek Polak in 1970 and ever since then Porsche's have been in our family. That little 68 912 was fully restored about 10 yrs ago and is still with me and my brother to this day.
I have been around Rennlist since 2006 when I purchased an 89 964 C4 in Guards Red. Since then this community has provided an amazing amount of information that is worth the price of membership. I did my best to contribute to the 964 forum whenever possible. After owning my 964 C4 for nearly 12 yrs I made the tough decision to let it go. The market was getting hot and the car became more of a show piece rather than a fun car to just go out and drive. It was a regular in a PCA Timeline event for 11 yrs and was also invited to be on display at the 991 launch event in Palm Springs CA. The goal was to sell the 964 and move up into a 997 to have something more modern.
After letting my 964 go I spent months researching and looking for a 997 and Rennlist was an amazing source of information as usual. Just a few weeks ago I found the right 997 for me. After numerous emails and phone calls I made the decision to just pull the trigger and get a PPI on a 997S about 400 miles from home sight unseen. After the results came back good I worked out a time we could get together and see and drive the car. I asked the owner to take me out on a fun ride and he did not disappoint. After I did my stint in the car the deal was done 10 min later and I was on a 7 hr drive home with a 2006 Arctic Silver 997.1 Carrera S Tiptronic with Black full leather interior. I drove her home this Saturday morning and enjoyed every second.
I have a few minor repairs to do and thanks to this forum the repairs will be much easier. Thanks Rennlist and thanks to the fellow 997 owners. I hope to continue to contribute to this forum like I did in the 964 forum. Let the Mod's begin!!

Welcome! Let us know how we can help on any repairs. The worn soft touch paint on the center console and AC switches is usually the first order of business on the cosmetic side. They are easy fixes if yours hasn't already been done.
As for mods, a couple simple ones to get you started:
- Fister exhaust
- LaPower bluetooth streaming and hands free calling
- 15mm spacers all around

Welcome to the 997 section. Nice with a roadtrip to bring it home. Will be interesting to hear your wiews later on after some ownership as I have been longing for a 964. Not to replace the 997 but to add to the family.
You will find this section friendly and useful as the 964 section.

Awesome, congrats, looks great. I'm in Corona, I've got a little experience wrenching on the 997 - if ya ever need a helping hand, let me know. There's a weekly C&C get together at the Saleen parking lot off the 91, Walters Porsche goes out and supports it every few months.
Cheers,

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to the 997 forum. I have to say this is the best Porsche forum around.
My 997S has 71k and I would say the interior / exterior / mechanical condition is a 9 / 8 / 8.
Some of the items I need to address:

Some of the items I need to address:
- Need to order another Key - Only have one
- Stone Guards - Starting to yellow. Will replace with black guards
- Front Fog/Turn lights - Upgrade to LED
- Driver's door handle - Need new axle. Seen the DIY's and should be easy
- PCM Radio ***** - Ordered replacements
- Alternator/Starter cable - Has hard warm starts and I may attemt the replacement myself. Has new alternator/battery
- Passenger exhaust tip sitting a bit lower - May need to replace a motor mount on that side
- Add Bluetooth to PCM - Looking at the LA Power BT setup

- There is nothing like the sound of an air-cooled 911 motor. I know the 997 has a unique sound. Even with Gundo or Fister hacks the sound is in a different class. The mechanical music out back of the air-cooled motors are amazing. I never used my radio in the 964.
- That unique "Ting / Ping" sound as you close the door on the older 911's
- There is definitely a more raw feel to the older 911's in handling and road feel - The 997 is amazing but I will miss that road feel of the 964. You have to control the car more with the 964 where the 997 seems like it has all that handled for you.

Congrats on your new-to-you 997. These 997’s are awesome machines, and this forum will take up WAY too much of your time as you continually add mods to your ride. Now, let’s see some pics of your SWB I’ve got a ‘68 911L that keeps me busy when I’m not throwing more mods at my 2010 4S Cab. Welcome to the forum and looking forward to seeing more pics of both your P cars!

Congrats. I just did the same thing in Dec, picked up a 997 S after selling the 964 a year or so ago. Good to be back in a Porsche and enjoying getting to know the liquid cooled version.
Enjoy!
