Default Has anyone tried using vag-com on their 997?

Wondering if anyone has tried using their Audi/VW vag-com on their 997? Search on the interwebs show no conclusive answers; some say it works on Cayennes. I have a vag-com cable & software for my Audis, and while I don't expect to do programming and adaptations, I was hoping to avoid purchasing another scanner (like Durametric). Anyone try it (and not fry their 997 ECU)?

I think the people who have done it are the Cayenne guys. But a Cayenne is a far closer relation to a Touareg or Q7 than 997 is to anything on the other parts of the VAG empire. I think you just bite the bullet and get a Durametric.

It'll read generic OBD2 functions. So you can use it to check/clear a check engine light, but that's about it.

Agreed - the general OBD2 stuff that is standardized it should do just fine. Any of the brand specific stuff that is piggybacked on the OBD2 interface needs software support - so unless VAG-COM adds Porsche coding that stuff wouldn't work.
