After your 997 - Do you aspire to go older (air cooled), newer (991+) or GT?

For me there’s no “after my 997”. I intend to keep it forever. I just bought another car over the weekend but it’s not a Porsche and I also intend to keep it forever. I bought a 1977 Honda Civic, which has off the charts sentimental value because it was my first car!
If a ridiculous amount of money comes my way in the future then I would buy a 1967 911R (the yellow one that is for sale at Canepa ideally), and I would also get a 356A coupe outlaw built by Rod Emory.

With unlimited money and the ability to only own one, a 997 GT2RS would probably be it for me, the "end-game" 911.

Glad to see that this topic is of interest to others and that I'm not the only one who wastes way too much time browsing Autotrader, BringaTrailer, Rennlist classified and other sites looking and dreaming about eventually adding my "end game" 911 to the garage. Seems like a lot of us have very similar thought processes. I've driven both a 993 and a 997.2 GT3. The 993 was a manual cab, so not the definitive purist experience, but it was nonetheless the drive that set me down the path to eventual 911 ownership back in my early 20's. More recently I had the privilege of driving a 997.1 GT3 on some winding mountain roads, and it was without a doubt the best car I've ever driven. If I didn't need to maintain some semblance of a back seat for my kids, I would have probably thrown down the extra 50-75K on top of my C2 to get one (I prefer the looks of the 997.2s so would probably hit the high end of that range). If I'm honest though, I only go to the track once or twice per year and I'm sure the C2 is a better fit for my actual, primarily road use right now. Some day though when kids are older and disposable income is easier to come by...

Older before, 87 Carrera, then newer, 06 Carrera4, and these days I wanna go BACKWARDS not forwards again....as I age the cars tend to stay. Serious consideration going towards a 944 now.

I plan to keep the GTS I have now. But I will eventually add another 911 or two. I planned on doing 991 GT3 for the last several years. But now I've decided that I'll have more fun with a 991.2 GTS. I'm looking forward to have a RWD turbo 911.

would love to add a 991 turbo. by the time it happens ill be older and will more then appreciate the GT-ness of the car (pdk will allow me to take the car out in traffic/comfort/quiet etc etc).
i went for a spin in my friends superleggera and anothers 991.1 gt3rs and i had to jump out of the car after a few minutes ... my back was killing in those seats (plus the harshness of the suspension).

The 997 Turbo is my end game. Still the best looking 911 for me. I prefer the 997.1's tail lights too. And its definitely gonna be a collector's. Im hoping to get it in the next couple of years.

I'd like to add a 912 back to the join the 997 C4S (which I plan on keeping). I had a sand beige 1969 which I sold.
As for other more modern 911's, I'm back and forth between (all 997's) Turbo, GT3, GTS, and even a 997.1 S, and turn it into more of an outlaw build. There are so many great flavors of 911 it's hard to know what to do. I also miss my 997 Targa4, but I have no interest in a cab, just not for me.

Great topic.
For my soul, I'd keep the 997 for many happy years to come. When the boys outgrow the backseat I'd like start our next chapter and rebuild the engine together in the garage. Maybe a tricked out 4.0.
For my ego, I'd get a silver GT3 Touring.
For my dream, I'd get a Singer and give the kids the GT3 and 997.

THis is a great question....I was in love with all of the generations of 911s. So I have been fortunate in being able to collect them... When I had my Porsche collection at its largest (which you can see in my signature with only 991 GT3 missing), I thought I would be heaven and drive all of them. What I found, is the childhood dreams of having the cars I grew up with just did not meet the expectations that I developed from driving the new performance machines. With a span of 50 years of cars at one time in my stable, I found I never drove my older cars, nor did I want to...offered me no satisfaction anymore and my tastes had changed immensely. In addition, the cars I said I would never sell, I am selling or will sell. Why? Things change and get better and worst of all I get bored...Life is too short, particularly if you are my age, you realize you need to experience more, and not less and you can't turn back time cause it is never as you remembered it anyway. So for me, I want the latest and greatest to stretch my life experiences (you young guys will se what I mean in a few years :-) )... So bring on 992, and Ferrari and Lamborghini and so on....

It's a very tough question for me. I love my 2010 C4S Cab and it's only got 47,000 miles on it and living in Florida now I only put 5,000 miles a year on it. My extended warranty runs out next year and I'll buy another but that'll probably be the last one I can buy. I've always yearned for a SC or a 964 and I drove one not too long ago with just 50,000 miles o it and it was sweet. A jaguar dealer in Naples had it for sale and I seriously considered selling mine and buying that but then I got busy with work and the dealer sold it and that was that.
Then I looked at my car again and somehow can't imagine selling her. I've only done a few mods,,,,,,leather console to a full leather interior, Short shifter, Tubi, HRE's, and that's it but she's right where I want her and I'm still thrilled to be driving her. Of course the PTS Turquoise Blue color is another reason I want to keep her too.
If I'm really honest with myself I think the old car will always be a dream and my current car will be with me for the rest of my life.......and that makes me happy as well.

...and to finish my earlier comment. The Singer is a car I would look forward to as well. Classic styling with newer technology. :-)
