yeah, I don't care how they look. And I'll be taking it easy in the dry and wet. I just want the most snow and ice traction for the mountains, which eliminates any performance winter tire pretty much, anyway.

I decided to go with 225/45-18 and 255/45-18 Nokian R2s, or H8s... We'll see how it goes.

Good luck and that's a good choice for best snow and ice traction. The high performance ones by Michelin or Pirelli won't be as good, having V speed rating!

I'll be running Nokian Hakkapeliitta7 studded tyres, with 295s at the rear, on my C4S. All I have is the 19x11.5 inch Carrera Sport rim, and I wouldn't want to stretch a narrower tyre around that. I might have gone for R2s but Nokian's distributor Vianor didn't have the stock, even though I live in Finland. The new R2s are very nice on my wife's car though...

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but I can offer a few things for consideration. I live in the mountains, and I drive my 911 year round. I’ve purchased many brands of winter tires over the years. On my 911s, I’ve used Bridgestone Blizzaks, Michelin Pilot Alpins, and Pirelli Sottozeros. I like the Michelins the most, although the Pirellis were very good. I won’t buy Blizzaks for a 911 again. I ran 265 width tires on my 996, and I ran 295 width tires on my 997 and 991. The 295 width isn’t ideal for snow, but it’s not as bad as you might think. I’ve always gotten around fine in winter conditions with 295 width rears, even in snow.

I run Hakkas on my Audi. They are great in snow and ice, but they are loud and they aren’t ideal on dry pavement.

I have a set of A/S Pirellis which I really like. Dry grip is good and tire is quiet and smooth. I havent been caught in the rain with them but I suspect they would perform better then my PS2s.

255s work fine. They don't even look that terribly silly with spacers. Can't wait to test them in the snow.
