Bruce,

Thank you. Lots of easy solutions to what appears to be a Porsche problem that has gone on for too many years! Shame on them for not standing behind their mistake.

Easy fix, just clean them up. I posted instructions here:

The challenge with 997.2 ***** is not chipping the edges of the little caps to access the screws. You may want to try and clean them in situ ... maybe place a slim sheet of plastic or card behind the **** to keep the alcohol off of the face plate.

My experience cleaning the goo from plastics is that it is temporary.... maybe these ***** are not the same... but..... these polymers are a mix of a lattice and viscous material.... when it breaks down, either from temperatures, sun, ozone... whatever, the liquid component starts oozing from the lattice. This does not stop as the product is foregone..... you can clean it with alcohol, but it will return..... most likely. Cleaning also usually results in a loss of black color. That is why I just wrote a check to Suncoast and put on new ones and get another eight years.... I also chipped the caps.

Peace
