Today when I went to close the sunscreen on my targa, it got stuck. Closes about an inch or two, then stops and makes a loud noise. It does retract back, so it can stay in the open position.
I assume this is going to cost me some serious bucks at the dealership, unless I can try to figure out how to fix it myself. I searched the forum to see if anyone had this issue, didn’t find anything. Has anyone experienced this with their targa? We’re you able to fix it yourself, or is a trip to the dealership?
I’m at 32k miles, if I can’t fix it myself, may just wait till the 40k service at the dealership and get it all done then. But it would be nice to have the sunshade closed on those really hot days.
I have a 2007 Targa and it has happened twice. The dealer charged me $700 to replace the motor. The second time I went to an independent mechanic and thought maybe I would just put a darker color on the roof. He talked me out of that idea and charged me $400. Just for your comparison.
Thanks! So you got the loud noise when trying to close the sunshade?
$700 doesn’t sound too bad, I was thinking it might be at least double that.
Nonetheless, I’m going to try to take a look at it tomorrow with better light. I was hoping it was just off the track or something and could be fixed easily, but who knows.

Well, I finally got around to taking the car in to the dealer. I've been using them over independent lately for a few reasons. Unfortunately, to replace the motor with labor and tax is $961.
Should be done by tomorrow, in the meantime, I've got a Cayenne loaner.
Wow, motor gone already? Do you use the shade often? I never use mine.
Sounds like a gear or belt problem. Might be worth opening it up.
See if the dealer will let you take some photos of the old parts to share.

I used it pretty much every day. Six months ago I got a new job, and unfortunately, the new workplace does not have a parking garage, so the car is out in the California sun all day. I close the sunshade when I park in the morning, then open it up again in the afternoon when I leave. The dealer said it was the motor that went bad.
