Who is driving with TPMS not working?
I got brand new tires a year ago on my 2011 997.2 gts. Did not change the sensors. Now my passenger front has failed. I hate to replace the one sensor with an expensive oem, just to have a second sensor fail in the near future. I have center lock wheels and cringe at the idea of having to replace all 4 sensors by taking all the good tires off and back on again. Who drives without all sensors functioning normal? Besides the dash light is there a down side. Would love to wait and get them all changed when I need a new set of tires. Thoughts?

There's no down side with driving without sensors and with the dash all lit up. It would drive me nuts though. Folks that track the car will drop the pressure to levels where the system lights up like a Christmas tree so in the 28/29 psi range.
There is a way to disable the whole TPMS system, however, I don't re-call the exact steps. You somehow need to physically disconnect the receiver box, I think its near the brake fluid reservoir, than disable the feature with a Durametric or Porsche Computer.

If one has failed, the rest will follow so just get it done and replace all 4.
No down side but just the light always on which is something I could not drive with on for an extended period of time.
Having them working is great on a car like these. Seeing what each tire pressure is allows you to watch for slow leaks when you don’t know you have one.
Just change them. There are aftermarket sensors out there that are not that expensive and do a great job.

If there is any downside it would be the loss of a warning system - low profile tires are difficult to visually determine to be under inflated and TPMS would confirm this event or maybe even give advance warning of a slow leak.

Mine are off. Previous owner must have disabled them, or there aren't any inside the wheels - haven't had them off the rims yet.
I inquired about having them turned back on, but my indy talked me out of it.
Said it was not worth the bucks to have a $1000 tire gage.
Especially if you do some track or autoX. The added heat will send the things into apoplexy.
Yes, it will warn you of a slow leak. Worth it. You decide.

Holy Jumpin! $200 tire gauge!
I had my $10 gauge tested and it came within 1-2 psi of the best one at the tire shop.
Recently I asked my Pirelli rep what he would recommend. He uses a cheap $10 unit as well.
Mind you, if you are racing at LeMans, it would warrant the expensive one.

I paid $19.95 with shipping included.

One wheel sensor intermittent on my 2011 997.2. I expect the rest to go down soon, since about six and a half years old. I will mount four new tires in the spring, and will replace all TPMS transmitters then.
At least I have the readout on three wheels, so that's good. I've gotten used to the warning, so that's not a bid deal. Mike

I had one go on my 2011 c4s. Bought 4 off ebay for $109 , took the tire to my buddy where we just broke the bead in the tpms area changed the tps and pumped the tire back up. 10 mins tops and I was on my way home to remount the tire.

The other 3 are still working fine , but I think one is getting low as it takes a little longer for the car to read it on start up.

My 09 C4S still has the original sensors. I hope they last forever.

You can have dealer check how much life is left in sensors (I think a Durametic will also be able to tell you). I had mine checked when I serviced the car, and found it had about a year left. Worked out well, as I needed a new set of tires in about 8 months, so I replaced all the sensors when I got new tires.
Not Porsche related, but Fwiw, in the year or so that I've been using Uber, I don't think I've ever been in an Uber where I didn't notice that the TPMS light was on in the car.
