Default Do you know what this thingy is for?

After 1.5 year driving this 997.1, I found this button on the left side of the PCM panel is not a fake. If you push it it will come out... That's about all I know about it!

997.2 has an ugly slot labeled "SIM" for the same purpose. I read up on it in the owner's manual just so I could answer that question. Every male human that rides in my car for the first time asks what it is for.

But it's worthless unless you have the telephone option - option code 666.

I've never heard that one. Second SIM at best, most likely Bluetooth solution

Yes it’s the secondary SIM so you can use your “mobile” in the car before Bluetooth was fixed from 2009 etc.

I saw some cars with this phone option when I looked for my 997. It’s hilarious that this existed up to 2009.

The phone option looked like this and under the driver seat I think the main module was located.

The 2009+ cars still have a SIM card slot. I’ve got one in my 2014 911.

And that is all you need to know, it's useless. Wouldn't it be cool if it was a microsd slot and you can play MP3' on it.

Actually the mobile hone company supplied two sim cards if needed. Your service automatically move from the car to the hand held phone and vis versa. They actually had different numbers but the phone call would be automatically transferred.

PSA.....remove card when you sell. I had the previous owners sim installed with nanas and Satan's number. Im guessing Satan was the Ex.

Consumer Cellular (its a cheepo phone company aimed at the senior community), offers a $10/month pay as you go sim chip option. I was gonna get a burner sim but it was $30 and died after 30 days. My thought process was a back up if I forgot my phone or an emergency.

Im gonna get a miniature beer can and put it in the sim slot. Thanks for the idea.
