Default looking at a 997 - car quality?

I'm looking at 997s, trying to get a 2009 or newer.

Looking at first owner service records for cars is especially off-putting. Is it common for 997.2 to have all sorts of little build quality issues or is this a lemon?

This car had gone back in several times for the right side mirror: #1 Wouldn't tilt down, then #2 cracked then #3 mirror was burned from faulty heater.

Random issues with seat belt not retracting and seat cushions falling off twice, went in 3-4 times to try to reprogram the door locking function but was never able to do it. Then had problems with unlocking altogether, and needing a new key. Needed new HPFP, frunk hood locking mechanism.

Is this common when the car is new and things are getting worked out or is this a Friday afternoon build?

HPFP is a semi- common problem with the .2's. However, given the simplicity of some of this stuff... is the dealer competent...?

you should look at the carfax, if you know the dealer you should look at all the warrantee history and the customer paid service history.
If you dont know the dealer, have any porsche dealer look up the warrantee history.
After that, you should have a dealer do a complete cpo inspection. Then you will know what it needs to make it good or you will know it need s too much to make it good

I think the 997.2 is one of the best cars built, not sure what market your looking in but in CA, there is a ton of cars to choose from, but most come with more owners and more unknowns.

I would also not put a faulty mirror into the category of "Lemon" as you describe it, if your looking at a 2009 it's 8 years old, do you know any 8 year old cars without a few faults?

I disagree, but I might go so far as to say the 997.2 build quality is certainly at or near the top of he expensive luxury and sports car market.

I can't comment on the OP's car in question. Like Mcfisticuffs mentioned, the dealer's service department might just suck so there are too many variables to nail down a cause.

BUT, I would definitely shy away from a German car that had a history of electrical gremlins. Mechanical parts can be replaced and issues fixed. Cars with a ghost in the machine are essentially cursed and should be avoided.

German cars with electrical gremlins are soulless beasts that will drain your happiness away.

Good luck in your search.

Well the majority of the stuff happened in the first 2-3 years / 25k mi under warranty. My 2008 BMW didn't have constant electrical gremlins like that.

The service record quieted down after 25k, either the owner got less picky or all the defects got fixed, but it makes you wonder, especially with electrical things.
