looking at a 997 - car quality?
Looking at first owner service records for cars is especially off-putting. Is it common for 997.2 to have all sorts of little build quality issues or is this a lemon?
This car had gone back in several times for the right side mirror: #1 Wouldn't tilt down, then #2 cracked then #3 mirror was burned from faulty heater.
Random issues with seat belt not retracting and seat cushions falling off twice, went in 3-4 times to try to reprogram the door locking function but was never able to do it. Then had problems with unlocking altogether, and needing a new key. Needed new HPFP, frunk hood locking mechanism.
Is this common when the car is new and things are getting worked out or is this a Friday afternoon build?
If you dont know the dealer, have any porsche dealer look up the warrantee history.
After that, you should have a dealer do a complete cpo inspection. Then you will know what it needs to make it good or you will know it need s too much to make it good
I would also not put a faulty mirror into the category of "Lemon" as you describe it, if your looking at a 2009 it's 8 years old, do you know any 8 year old cars without a few faults?
I can't comment on the OP's car in question. Like Mcfisticuffs mentioned, the dealer's service department might just suck so there are too many variables to nail down a cause.
BUT, I would definitely shy away from a German car that had a history of electrical gremlins. Mechanical parts can be replaced and issues fixed. Cars with a ghost in the machine are essentially cursed and should be avoided.
German cars with electrical gremlins are soulless beasts that will drain your happiness away.
Good luck in your search.

The service record quieted down after 25k, either the owner got less picky or all the defects got fixed, but it makes you wonder, especially with electrical things.
