Default 997.1 GT3 RS Cup Conversion

X-Post due to no response

I did tons of searches and research, but still need more clarity.. Thanks in advance for your input:

Mine is an 06 C2S on a budget build to look like a cup car. This is a street car, and will likely never see track time in this trim.

I recently bought an OEM GT3 RS front bumper. It needs repair, but looks ok. I also bought 997.2 DRLs. I know I need the air ducts and have read that I can modify the wheel liners.

What do I do with my headlight cleaner nozzels?
What do I do with my turn signals?
From the pictures, am I missing any hardware or trim?
I have read I can splice the .2 DRLs in with out having to buy the expensive converter. Are there any write ups on this?
Is there anything else I need?

Don't know all the answers. But for the headlight washer nozzles, the street 997.1 bumpers come in two flavors - with and without headlight nozzles. I'm guessing for cup cars the nozzles were not an option. So either you will need to find a way to mount the nozzles and tubing to the cup car bumper or loose the option. Take off your existing bumper to see how they are mounted.

Corner lights also don't exist on the cup cars. In the second picture just above the "Mothers" sticker is the fender flare piece that runs down the bumper. It covers the corner light. So again, lose it or modify the bumper.

You will likely need two front fenders to match the fender flares too, GT3 RS flavor or cup car flavor. And then larger wheel spacers to push the wheels out - or different wheels with lower offsets to compensate.

Also purchased a Cup bumper and asked a similar question. I received this helpful response:

You need the 997.2 airframe and drl brackets to be able to mount the grill mesh and drls. Also the cup car didn't have washers. If you want those you will need to drill the holes for them. To note the .1 and .2 used different washers and they mount differently. Your best bet if you want them is use the .2 ones as the brackets for the drl have provisions for them.

As for the side markers you either remove the bumper flare portion (it's just double side taped
On and has a little notch it the indicator area) and add the marker or if you are going to keep the cup flare then you need the fender portion of it. A third option is if you don't want to go cup flares and cut your fenders, you could go 997.2 rs flares which are just double side taped on the bumper and fender and require no cutting, and allow the use of the side marker.

That link above is to my cars build.

thanks for your help..
  • I dont really want headlight washers.. can I just plug up the lines?
  • Can i ditch the side lights? Will it throw codes?
  • I was under the impression this bumper included DTRL frames, are they not in there?

1. Yes u can plug. I removed mine completely including the reservoir as I refuse to use it even for my windshield.

2. If you ditch side lights you will have check sidemarker warning on the dash. You could run resistors to trick it. I've also heard someone successfully coded the lights completely out.

3. Hadn't zoomed on the picture. Upon doing so it appears they are there.

Im going to have to send you a six pack of something for all your help so far.. On second thought, I have a feeling before this is over with, it might be a keg.

I see that you did not use 997.2 DRLs, but do you have any info on how to wire them to the .1 system without the expensive adapter?

When you refer to the expensive adapter are you meaning the fvd converter box?

So it depends then if you want the actual DRL function. If you don't care about that you don't need to recode. If you want to use that feature you will need to recode.

This thread talks about putting the 997.2 DRL onto a 997.1

Any harm in fitting the bumper without CUP air ducts for the brakes? I plan to add them if I decide to keep this set up

No. No hard in doing so. Fitting the cup brake cooling ducting from the bumper to the backing plates of the hubs is a pita on a street car
