Granted, he hates mostly on the aspirated 996 but most of what he says carries over to tge turbo. Lol a good GT3 for $40k. Can you believe this smug patronising fool, they even pay him for this ****.

I read the article and agree with him. The NA 996 will never be collectible.

The $40k was about a Turbo.

If a 914 can become collectable (like pointed out by him), a 996 can become collectable as well.

The C4S will go up, it also is looks better then the standard 997.

The 997.1 also has the same crap engine, all though it's an updated m97. It has a IMS that can't be serviced. The engine still seems to fail from cylinder scoring just like the m96 engine.

As far as the comment "The stereo and HVAC systems are nothing but trouble" I have seen the HVAC system burn out and creak like a cricket living in the dash in the 997. My 996's have never had an issue and the stereo and HVAC systems and both which are 16 and 15 years old still going strong.

I agree the 996 is not rare. Porsche did well and economy was doing good during those years.
There are a few models I think are special
GT2, GT3, Turbo inc the S, C4S and 40th

I think with the m96 models after a cylinder sleeve and rebuild with nikies would increase the value of them. The 996 will be the only 911 ever that has a modern head light which will cause it to always standout in the 911 line. It's the red haired step child, the black sheep of the family. I kind of like that about it.

The guys over on the N/A 996 forum are especially upset.

And you’d never have to explain to your neighbors why you bought the ugliest Porsche since the 914.
Apparently the author lives around some snotty neighbors! I can't imagine having to apologize for my Porsche.

At the NA forum there is always crying about something. They like the cheap price of the 996, but they don't like it to be criticized for the reasons behind its low value.

The author is full of it tho, most neighbors don't even know the difference between a boxter and 911, and when I bought my 2003 turbo last year (it does look pristine) they all thought I bought a new Porsche.

There are plenty of cars that no one though would ever be "collectible" that are now. I'm not going to opine either way, but I will say that the author clearly didn't do any research when writing this "article". He calls the M96 IMS a part that "fails often" even though only between 1 and 5 percent of M96s have experienced the failure. He talks about 996s like the are unreliable, low quality time bombs. He also completely forgot to mention the 996 GT2 which is already rare and expensive and poised to become even more so.

The $40K statement was one he really didn't apply to either the Turbo or the GT3 individually. I read it as him saying you can get a clean Turbo OR GT3 for $40K.

Overall, this is a poorly researched opinion piece but someone who clearly hates the 996 generation 911.

I think for the most part the author is accurate. The NA 996 regular production models are much like the 964. Sort of forgotten. Eventually all Porsche become some what collectible. The NA 996s will too, eventually. But not in the near term.

I like this quote, but of course he leaves out the GT2. Which is already collectible and expensive.

"There are only two truly desirable 996-generation Porsches in our market: The 2001-2004 Turbo and the 2004 GT3. They have the effectively bulletproof split-cased engine, and they're both fast enough to keep up with modern performance cars. Values for these cars are already on the upswing. Feel free to jump on the bandwagon, if you have the $40,000 or more that’s required to get a good example."

This, lol

The vast majority of people who ask me about my car think it looks new.

Jack is a troll just as water is wet. He was banned many a time in the past from VWVortex for stirring up **** storms.

Don't feed trolls and they will die in their echo chambers.

When all the 996 na engines explode these cars will be rarer than hens teeth and values will skyrocket
shut up and enjoy your car. I opened my garage and showed the 6turbo to a couple of car guys today and they said "is that a 2013 model?"
Great car puts a smile on my face every drive.
