Default 2004 996 Turbo Upgrade Stereo or keep it Stock?

Can you guys give me some advise on my stock stereo / navigation system. When I bought the car I never received the navigation disc and the CD player has a fault of some kind. Will I be able to fine a disc under 300.00 or is it best to upgrade it with an Alpine or some other brand? I would then get updated navigation, Bluetooth, Sirius satellite, etc? I just don't want to ruin the value of the car because I upgraded the system. Any of you guys upgrade your systems and what did you replace it with if you did? Thanks in advance, Joe NY

Pull it, the future buyer will be glad you did. The sat nav on these cars is outdated. You will not hurt the value just hang onto the bits you pull if you decide to sell.

I think all aftermarket stereos are tacky in the 996. If I did anything it would be the navigation from the porsche for the double din stereo and add a console delete kit.

I installed a dbl din pioneer with Bluetooth integration with my S7 phone. Best thing I ever did to the car. Phone is awesome, Pandora, Google maps, all almost flawless.
edit: almost forgot android auto, great app to integrate the phone into the driving ecperience.

I just bought the new 2015 update nav disk set for under $300 from Porsche of Annapolis. I wanted to keep mine stock. It works fine, just no touch screen like most new ones. I like the nav feature that shows in the tach when nav is enabled.

I upgraded to an iPad Mini and inexpensive Pioneer head unit. Used iPad mini was $180. Pioneer was less than $100.

I did the double din with Car Play - absolutely love the features - and it looks like it's stock - cell phone is clear and hands free

There is a unit made by continental (or branded continental, anyway) that has a very OEM look to it, you can even get a Porsche logo on it. It's single DIN, but then you can fill out the space with a single DIN storage pocket. Phones will always have easier to use, more up to date Nav anyway, so I'd ditch the nav and go with the clean look of a single din headunit. Has bluetooth audio.

Have a plan for dealing with the MOST adapter first and foremost.

Mine is a 2002 and I added a $70 A2D-BKR Bluetooth adapter, it works well but I get alternator whine at high volume that I haven't figured out how to mitigate yet.

I prefer the stock look and all I needed was Bluetooth, my phone does the rest better than anything on the market anyway.

Was your originally installed system the Bose MOST type, with fiber optic connections? My understanding was that you need to replace basically the entire audio installation in order to upgrade. Is that what you did? Any pics?

Thanks!

What do you mean when you say entire audio installation? Speakers still use regular speaker wire that connect to the stock amp. The optic connections are between AMP and head unit. So if you are like me and replaced the amp and head unit at the same time, all you need to do is run RCA cables (3 in my new setup) between the AMP and head unit. Not a very difficult task.

My after market head unit (i really need to refinish that yellow CF)
