Default Fully Built Transmission With Freed Performance

Hey guys,

So we didn't finish the event because trans failure. We found out what happened and it wasn't good. To many miles on the trans plus to much hp caused the brass bearing to fail and it destroyed reverese gear and 6th gear plus the syncro.

So now on the build which will take less then a week lol.

Sean Freed and I decided to fully build the trans now then later so we don't have another failure like this. We called bill radar in Las Vegas that protomotive recommended and wow that guy knows his stuff. I would highly recommend people with over 700awhp to build there trans completely and yes you will be looking at 6k to 8k plus doing this.

1st thru second will be GT2 RS gears.

3rd thru 5th will be straight cut gears.

6th will be normal.

All steel syncros.

Upgraded forks.

All new bearings and piņon bearings.

New reverse gear.

Upgraded pump to flow more oil thru the trans.

Yeah I heard some videos on the sound lol but bill radar said we really need those straight cut gears because of the power we're making or about to go up in power. I don't want to go through this again lol. I'll send pics on what they sent to us.

I did look at all the other gears and they took a lot of abuse with the power were already making after changing out some of the gears 8 months ago. Bill said if you don't change our those gears you will be taking out the trans in less then a year again.

Though the straight cut gears will make a ton of noise, by having a normal 6th gear you'll only have to listen to them when you are going up through them but still able to have a whine free 6th gear. I assumed that is why you aren't doing a straight cut 6th?

No one ever does 6th gear it's such a long gear that you will be fine plus we're running steel syncros on all gears so no worries. Now the only reason 6th failed is because a bearing failed that was old which moved the shaft and reverse gear hit the brass bearing and that was it.

Bill says the straight cut guard gears that he does will not be loud at all. Some other companies are really loud but these will not be a loud whine. Of course it will not be stock sounding but at least I know this will not happen again. This could have been worse as in blowing 3rd gear or 4th gear and damage would have been terrible.

I like the gt2rs 1st and second gear because of the amount of power we put out those will be longer gears so now I will be able to get my mph up higher. Looks like I'm right around 8k all said and done and that is cheap.

Best oil to use is either Mobil 1 75/90 Delvac or Motul Comp Gear 75/140

Also the additive you guys should put in your trans is ceratec.

Freed Performance is doing a great job in getting this done asap. Hands down to these guys staying late again.

All new bearings just came in including the piņon bearing. Stuff is not cheap.

I will sell my stage 3 clutch with the LWFW that's on my car now. It has around 6k miles no racing on it except the wannagofast event.

The final price is going to be around 15k for completely building this trans with bill radar parts.

Clutch twin disc arrived today and after sean taking out the trans he found some more damage lucky we ordered and upgraded everything including all new bearings and upgraded forks.

I got to say about Sean Freed he is one awesome mechanic. He knew he wanted this car done and ready to go to North Carolina half mile and once again he has worked another 12am late tonight to finish this transmission. I have pics and will post them later on.

Taking apart the trans pic below.

Including the clutch made it close to 20k.

The bearings cost a lot there not cheap. The piņon bearings frigging expensive. Then bill radars gears and billet shaft plus upgraded forks. Then labor. Everything is brand new. I'll show what the bearings looked like after 100k miles.

The cause was a couple of things the big one was to much power the car made was tearing the gears up. The trans had a slight leak where the lever went and caused the trans to lose some oil. Any oil the leaks is not good it will cause your 5th and 6th gear to starve of oil.
