Default Want a 996TT, but...

I feel that it's a touch obnoxious and pompous at my age.

A little background on me...I am 32 living in Miami (tons of flashy stuff here). I finished law school a little over a year ago, but I am in roof sales . I have a few motorcycles, so I grabbed a Ford Lightning and added a few goodies on it thinking it would satisfy the urge, all while being able to move my bikes to and from the track. Well about a year into the Lightning and I want a 996/7TT. I am trying to be low key and under the radar, but it's not working out...does anyone know of a 911 Anonymous? Wondering if any of you had the same thoughts going in? I truly am a car/motorcycle enthusiast, but perception is reality for a lot of people, hence the apprehension.

I tossed around the idea of going older like 964 etc, but I want a driver, and I find the most value in the 996TT...only setback is that it is a bit more modern, and to the untrained eye it might as well be a 2015 model.

A 996 or 997 is hardly obnoxious in Miami. A GT3RS 4.0 barely stands out there!

I find that Porsches in general are the least obnoxious brand of their type too. You need to order a funky Porsche to stand out

People really don't care about your car or you as much as you think, especially in Miami.
Congrats on finishing law school, buy yourself whatever you want.

You'll be fine, buy what you want and makes you happy. I love when people ask me what year my Porsche is and I tell them it's a 2002 and they are even more impressed with the cleanliness of it. I've had a lot of "nice cars" but the Porsche is my absolute favorite and in a class of its own, I'm tempted to buy another Porsche as a daily.

I bought mine 3 years ago when I was 27 and have really enjoyed it. Obnoxious? Maybe to some people but who cares - I personally get excited when I see a sweet car like a 911 turbo on the road. I think I enjoy looking at these cars almost as much as driving them. That said I don't daily it and don't drive it to work - partially because I'd be too worried about door dings and partially to avoid any potential judgement from co-workers/clients, even though most people at work know I own it, I don't wan't to brag too much. In my opinion if you're in a financial position to by one, ie. student loans paid, retirement savings are on course, emergency fund, steady job, there's really no good reason not to get one. Occasionally the thought of selling it and investing the money crosses my mind but then I go for a drive and I can't let it go!

911s aren't that flashy and don't get noticed much here (SF / Silicon Valley) or Miami.

When I was about your age I bought a 4 year old Dodge Viper GTS, blue with white stripes. That was a flashy car, and it attracted a lot attention. It was loud and a rolling car show. They still are. I enjoyed the performance but it wasn't a love affair by any stretch.

But my seal gray Turbo, let's just say it flies well below the radar and attracts less attention than a say a new Mustang.

I've owned a lot of cool cars, and I can say without hesitation that the 996 Turbo is the best driving car I've ever owned.

What is your real objection?

Don't think twice about it. I'm 29 and look younger - nobody notices aside from car-guys. 911's aren't obnoxious. I was thinking just the other day how private the experience is; 996 Turbo's are very experiential for the driver without garnering the external attention typically associated with a performer of that magnitude.

Who cares what other people think? Drive what makes you happy, I know that I do. FWIW, I don't see that many 996 Turbos in South Florida on the road, but like MHawk said, they are nowhere near the flashiest cars in Miami...
