Default Cylinder PSI/Engine/Trans Rebuilders

With due apologies for being a noob, I did a search but did not find what I was looking for.

Questions:

1.) Stock cylinder PSI for 01 996tt. Having a PPI with compression check done on a high mileage car, but want to confirm what the readings should be.

2.) Recommended engine & tranny rebuilders in the Midwest area (Ohio being ideal) As I plan on rebuilding sooner rather than later. I have a well equipped shop and am a decent shade tree. But zero experience with flat six turbo engines.

3.) Best shop manuals? Must have tools? Other recommendations?

Thanks for any guidance.

rebuild it when/if it breaks. Plenty of high mileage cars going strong. Good luck.

I get what your saying, but this is a very high HP car with high miles. I'd rather be proactive than be doing a track day or weekend getaway and have it let go.

If I do it on my schedule, then I can plan to have it done over the winter when I'm not driving it anyway and have it ready for the season.

I'll check out Bilt Racing, thanks!

All bolt on as far as I know, Evoms GT700. So 702hp/693tq is what's advertised.

You're in luck if you need a transmission rebuild since you have one of the best in Athens, Brian Copans:

Check it out and drive it some before you set a new record for early onset Porschanoia. A trans and engine rebuild can be as expensive as an entire 996t .

Thanks for the recommendation. I have an idea about the costs involved, calculated into my budget along with purchase price.

While I'm a 996tt noob, for clarity's sake, I have had many sports cars (including a 951), have rebuilt a few engines, done an engine swap (another story) done a lot of auto x and a little track time.

My plan for the car is a fun driver and DE's/track days. So I'll drive it for awhile of course, but extensive mods/high miles/hard driving = overhaul in my experience.

Plus it's an chance to get to know the car as I'll drop and install myself, go through things to nut and bolt, clean, etc. Its a 16yr old car, I'm not taking it on a track without going through it.

So no one knows the what the stock cylinder psi is?
