Default maintenance question

I have a 04 TT purchased about 1.5 yrs ago. Mileage now is slightly north of 40K. I typically drive the car a bit on the weeknds, maybe 10-15 miles/wk.

I have not done any maintenance since purchased. I did have a PPI shortly before purchase at the dealer and then had clutch accumulator replaced.

suggestions on maintenance? things that need/should be done?

thanks

13 yr old car. first thing i would suggest would be replace all the fluids. oil, coolant brake fluid, petosin and trans gear oil. inspect all the front and rear bushings for wear and inspect the caliper pucks for wear and same for all the engine bay rubber components. coolant reservoir oif its yellowed or cracked. front radiators for debris . clean radiators and a/c condensors.

spark plugs and coils can also be replaced. these are just basic maintenence items that get away from most folks who dont do their own maintenece and arent willing to spend the money to have a shop do it. these cars always look grerat on the outside. its underneath wear the real wear and tear show up

agree find the maintenance checklist for a "major" 60k service and that will help you to establish your own baseline moving forward. the cars mileage is pretty low, so i'm not sure i'd flush coolant as that's a mess.. but certainly plugs/coils/brake fluid and motor/gear oil for sure.

Coolant as well as all fluids is done based on time not just mileage. Having no history I would do all fluids at the least.

Do you know if the 30k mile scheduled maintenance was done? If you're uncertain I would at least get that done. Also make sure plugs are changed.

You should have had your plugs and coils replaced, as one has said fluids replaced.

thanks for the help. I am not sure what was done at 30K as the prior owner only had it for a few years as well. I will have all the fluids replaced and a general inspection.
Any recs where to go in the east bay/SJC area? I can go to the dealership in Livermore but wanted to see if there are any others around.
Also, what rough $$ should I be expecting..

thanks

Sonnen ~hour away from you has been great to me for parts expertise.

If you're keeping the car for a long time and want to drive it regularly, consider doing all the hoses with coolant and expansion tank.
Or, just wait until one pops and do them all then. The while you're at it gets expensive quick if you're not doing the work yourself and are paying retail for parts too.

My 2002 coolant tank just went at 41k. Small puddle behind divers side rear wheel, coolant smell when hot before the puddle. Got worse over time.

If you have all suggested done, find an indy that charges $100 +- to do the work, with that said all the above prices for fluid and parts + labor I will estimate $1800 +-

Clean the front drains on either side of the battery. Mine were all completely clogged when I got my car, and I suspect they had never been cleaned.

Just wanted to provide an update. I called local SA/SD and told them my history. Since I did have them perform a PPI and only a few minor things were detected (as detailed in the above thread) it seems to them as well that 30K maintenance was probably done.

They are therefore recommending a minor maintenance which would include inspection of all, oil change, cabin and air filter change and I think a brake flush. Quote is $920.

Any thoughts about cost and any suggestions on additional items is appreciated.

If that's all, I would do it myself. Maybe $200 max. Inspect items listed on 30K or 60K service.

most larger metro area porsche dealerships charge north of $2k for "major" a service ( 30/60/90/120K ) and at least! a grand for minor ( 15/45/75/105K etc ).

the "major" services as recommended is little more than a cpl/few hundred in parts at most (eg plugs/oils/filters/fluids etc..) and a few hours labor if you can find a way to DIY. but if you need a shop to do it all? find a good indy like kevinmacd suggests at 100 per hour +/-. as most of this stuff is just changing out plugs/filters fluids and inspecting stuff for "wear" etc.. and familiarize yourself ( if not already? ) with the "book" https://gaudinporschelv.com/images/d...oxster_986.pdf

because really...even the "major" service..., isn't.

Fuel filter. The filter is rather small and the Turbo uses lots of fuel.

Have the radiator ducts blown out or if the collection of debris is too heavy to remove by compressed air have the bumper cover removed and the debris cleaned out. It gets under/between the condenser/radiator and sometimes the bumper cover has to come off and even the condenser unbolted and gently swung out of the way to remove the trash between it and the radiator.

If tire wear is uneven -- rear tires wearing faster on the inside than outside (or any uneven tire wear) have an alignment done. Driven with reasonable restraint you should get 20K miles out of the rear tires, double that of the fronts.

If the inspection turns up any issues deal with those of course.

Some things can last a long time. My 2003 Turbo went 120K miles on its original front brakes. Clutch had no measurable wear at around 120K miles when the transmission was out for an RMS oil leak.

All 4 O2 sensors were replaced at 132K miles. (Had an O2 sensor error code and given the miles just decided to have them all replaced.) Was a bit pleased to note the engine ran better after new sensors installed.
Told me I got my money's worth out of the old sensors.

Coils were replaced at around 140K/145K miles, along with the plugs. The plugs weren't due for another 10K miles but tech said might as well while he was there for the coils so I had him replace the plugs. In the past plugs alone didn't make any difference but the new coils apparently made a difference because the engine ran better afterwards.

Radiator hoses can be long lived. Even my 2002 Boxster with over 310K miles is on its original hoses. The Turbo with just 155K miles has its original hoses, and coolant tank, too. Both cars get a 4/5 year coolant drain and refill with fresh coolant.

At any rate the inspection will turn up any questionable hoses.

Not a service item per se but I replaced the coolant cap with a newer part #. The original coolant cap can leak. It allows vapor to escape when the car is parked with the engine particularly hot -- such as is the case if the radiator fans are running and the A/C is not on -- and the heat load raises the coolant temperature/pressure which forces vapor out past the cap.
