Year 2 cost of ownership
 

Since my initial post was skewed by starting down the slippery slope https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...nership-5.html I figured an update would be in order.

This year consisted of oil, filters, plugs, coils, and P/S reservoir = ~$1k
Tires and brake pads were track consumables, otherwise nothing else needed in ~8k miles.

If you're looking for one of these to buy, lots of recent maintenance, pinned, fresh suspension, hoses, etc. are worth a significant premium over one that has no trail of records/work done that you can verify.

I pay about $1900 for a major service and about $800 for a small one and that's what I've spent on the car since November 2014. I've also changed tires but that was due to age.

Yep, I just finished my second year of ownership and after sorting out things were were needed and/or lacking, year 2 is significantly cheaper. Given I'm only driving 3-4K miles a year, I'd expect this year (year 3) to be even more cost effective.

Unexpected year 1 costs included new plugs/coils at 46K miles (30K service was done, but my tune uncovered a bad coil) and coolant overflow bottle.

i would be PISSED if i had to pay 1900 for a major service.

in the last two years i have had to replace a fuel pump a battery and oil and a cpl rear tires, and that's it. of course that's with the lowest miles added to the odo in years. the old girl's had a bit of a respite lol

That's it for maintenance.

About 2000 miles in 5 months. We will see what the rest of the year brings.

telling us what you spend on maintenance is irrelevant if the car isn't a daily driver. Most cars that sit unused cost $0 to maintain. lol

In 2016 I was probably in by $170 + my labor on necessary maintenance. I put 2000 miles on the car this year.

Oil, filter, gaskets, ignition switch, and $50 new (old stock) porsche window regulator.

Optional $ spent
repainted wheels $600, purchased new 997 ignition (not yet installed) $120.

For 2017, depending on how I feel I may replace the shocks to bilstein HD's, or buy a used aftermarket exhaust. I also want to replace the windshield to get a nice new clean one (but am worried about the installer messing up the interior so will likely hold off)

2k miles is nothing. Again, it's not relevant to the work needed but I think it's important for people to list the miles to maintenance to get a better idea.

That's a damn good deal for an OEM window regulator. Pretty sure I paid much more recently from Porsche.

please give us a headsup the next time you find that kind of deal lol. I'm sure we could put together a group buy at that price ;)

I have to pay, if I don't take it to a dealer or some other shop, no one will ever want to buy the car for it's right value. Sucks but service history by dealer or shop is a must over here.

At least I get my PS2's "cheap", I pay about $1100 for a set of 4 tires.

I couldn't afford to live somewhere that my tech didn't make house calls and I long for the day when I could get ps2's for 500 a pair in 315-30.
So I hear ya, if there are only a few competent shops. We gotta pay the going rate or stay home lol
