Default Best replacement battery for a 2002 TT?

Needs to be vented to,the outside. Does a sealed battery have to be vented at all. Are Optima ok? Used in my daily drivers. c

Optima is not vented but will need some mounting modification to hold it in the tray. As mentioned any brand H7 will do - I prefer the AGM batteries offered by Bosch (Pep Boys), Interstate and others. The AGM batteries have vent outlets on either side of the battery. The tray will even accommodate a larger H8 but you may need to modify hold down clamp.

only slightly "off topic" but a tip you might find helpful.. re: battery life. there is a parasitic drain on these cars while parked that is normal and unrelenting in its ability to drain the battery.

most anyone that keeps this car learns that a trickle charger is a must have, even if you only use it weekly as i do. I've been using a 60$ ctek 3300 trickle charger ( same as the porsche branded charge-o-matic ) for years now.

again, out of necessity. also per jhbrennans post, i also use interstate exclusively but only because AAA carries them around the city in their trucks and is a quick phone call away.

A weak battery was the primary defect identified when I had a PPI done prior to my purchase earlier this year.

I replaced the battery with a Bosch from Pep Boys: Bosch Platinum Series AGM Battery Group, Size H7/L4/94R. These are on sale right now. Great battery and easy install.

It's always a dice roll when I get into one of my cars that has been sitting, and I'm surprised when they DO stat. And as long as they are starting, I push the idea of a trickle charger to the back of my mind..

Ultimate disappointment-paid for the TT, got the keys, check out, bidding farewell to the PO, excited about driving it home and avoiding rush hour traffic' and it worst start!

Trickle charger now plugged in, and new battery on the way...c

Don't bother with Optima. I just put a regular old Interstate in my car when mine went bad. Next time I'll probably try an Odyssey.

i understand and just went thru something similar myself a few weeks back. i had a failing battery ( from not driving enough! ) and kept throwing it on the ctek, until one day recently it just gave out in a parking lot. now i have upped my ctek & cig lighter adapter regimen.

the ctek, while it WILL charge the battery and allow you to start etc, it isn't a charger as much as it is a "maintainer" and as such will never give the battery a full charge. in that way it's deceptive and afforded me a false sense of confidence.

e.g. it'll keep a good battery good, but it won't make a bad battery good again!

Yup, ctec to maintain after bringing battery up to full, charge. Best investment ever is my Harbor Freight battery tester with the load button; this battery is toast. Will hold a charge To get me to the shop wheee we are going to put in a new battery this eve, during their Christmas party including free BBQ and slot car racing. 10/4 on who makes these batteries-all from Johnson Controls-found a good deal on one wholesale-nee battery/free BBQ and slot car racing=life is good-thanks all

loved slotted car racing as a kid! until i could afford my 1st and all subsequent 911's which share with slot cars a propensity for tailwag lol.

enjoy!
