New Lotus

I expect to be in the high 1.30s after the mods I just did (bigger brakes, motorsport suspension, 40+ more hp, close ratio gearset and Quaife ATB).
I think the new car, stock, will be good for mid to high 1.40s. Some suspension work and take out some weight and you'll be running with the Turbos...

BTW, I need to call you to discuss the Exige, I', moving to the UK and decided not to track my new 996 anymore so I need a track car and I've always really like yours. Can you PM me a number to call you at?

Jean-Marc,
Good to hear from you, we miss you on track days The numbers I quoted are from Panorama, I'll have to look up the issue. I was surprised by the numbers as well, particularlly the GT2 time which I thought was really slow.
I'll PM you my details.

I have one on order in Toronto. Thinking of selling the 996TT, in the spring. First mod, will be a VVT-I swap to a (98)J-spec 3S-GTE turbo charged motor. Why have 180hp, when the 3S-GTE will deliver 250-300hp, at under 12 pounds of boost! As soon as i can get some drivetrain spec's and engine mount position's, this mod is looking more and more plausable...i wonder why they opted for the VVT-I motor, verses the bullet proof 3S-GTE!!
Talk about power to weight ratio's...300hp would put you in sportbike acceleration status, with hopefully little drivability loss!

REAL Elise power
If you want the ultimate Elise, check out a German company called who builds the Esthi Elise, the car has an Audi RS4 tuned engine, pumping out around 420 horsies. Now THAT's fast. Around 130,000 US though.

RWO, when do you take the lotus up to the track? i'd love to see you drive the lotus. My parents just moved up to Sugar Hill, so on the weekends, when im not at Georgia Tech, i head out to road atlanta and watch the cars go round and round!

Lotus Elise at ADAC Rally Bavaria 2003
I spotted this new Lotus Elise at the 'Maxlrainer Oldie-Feeling Rally'. Though new, it drew quite a crowd. My personal favorite was a mint '73' RS set up for the track, but roadable. For sale for 60,000 Euro's. If only the dollar were stronger.

What an awesome car. If you can throw in a plant and clear 300 hp you will have a devastating track car. This should eat up and spit out most 996tt's, even cup cars will have a tough time. I may see one of these in my future.

The Opel Speedster is the same car as the Elise and is rather fun to drive on a dry day but is a harsh ride when not on a smooth road as every pebble is felt thru the steering wheel and thru the thin seats. The radio is pretty pointless i thought as you have to crank it up to even come close to hearing lyrics as the wind and the engine generate a lot more noise. On wet roads the Speedster/Elise can be tricky, its so easy to spin this car around. The new Speedster Turbo should be even more of a kick as its pushing out 200hp and I thought 147 was hefty for such a small rocket. For those who can afford this as a track car I would encourage it but for everyday use only if you live in an area with freshly paved roads.

Indykid- Your observation was true of my old Europa Series 2 and my vintage racing Super 7. But, my Elise 190R has been quite good. About 2000 miles, 90%track, with only routine maintenance. The Elise has benefited from a modern chassis, and my guess is that the Toyota engine can only further improve things. It's a fairly simple car (no power anything) so that helps too. AS

Don't compare an E55 to an E-500. Even an '03 E55 is nothing like the '04 E55. This is one big torque haulin' motha. I got it because I need to have a nice car to take the occasional client out to dinner in. If I had to choose one car, tt all the way.
