Smile I would consider owning a 996TT, BUT...

I currently have a 996 Cabriolet. I bought a good third party extended warranty on it to extend the factory warranty out to 7 years 100,000 bumper to bumper. The main reason I have not considered a 996TT is because I heard you can't get an extended warranty on it. I always buy used (3 years old or so) and I really need the piece of mind that the warranty provides. Especially on a big ticket car like the 996. Now with the 996TT Cab, I am thinking again about the 996TT. Can anyone offer any insight here?

I also love how you can get some serious horsepower by turning up the boost via an ECU reprogram or swap.

Thanks,
Edward

Some extended warranty companies (warranty gold is one) do prohibit twin turbos, but I can't image that ALL of them do... I guess that's why you're asking the question though!

I do believe that if you were to buy the car from a Porsche dealer, you can buy a two year warranty directly from them...

Just don't buy anything from the Herb Chambers companies. I had the X70/X71 options and the clock with all it's engine and electrical minders fried itself and Herbie's service told me that the silver white faced gauge was aftermarket and refused to warranty it. After a few months of driving blind and a bunch of 'phone calls by me they finally relented and replaced the clock.

Warranties beyond the manufacturer's? Be careful of who and where you buy it.

If you only buy 3 years old used, you have nothing to worry about for 3 years. BTW, if a warranty company is looking for a reason to deny a claim, there's no easier one than a re-programmed ecu resulting in higher boost.

All I can say is be very careful of the "extended warranty". I have a 1996 BMW 750il that i bought in 1997. I bought a "bumper to bumper" extended 2-year/100,000 miles warranty from the BMW dealer, on top of the factory warranty. Well, in the past 2 years i have had about 5 problem and the warranty didn't cover ANY of them. So much for "bumper to bumper", read carefull the "exlusions" section of an extended warranty.
