Try to find the thread on the driving technique to help you seat the rings. It goes thru a regimen of driving up to higher rpm's, and backing off in-gear (to create negative cylinder pressures as I recall). It goes in a progressive cycle upward thru several gears, with several cycles in each gear. I believe it was posted by one of the moderators. AS

AS, it is probably too late to seat the rings at 5500 miles. They should have been seated by now. My Porsche engines stop burning considerable amounts of oil at or about 1500 miles. After that, I usually add 1/2 a quart per 5k under normal driving conditions.

I am still adding 1 quart per 1,000 miles after I hit 13,000 miles.

Normal?

I used 3 liters (about 3 quarts) in the first 3800 km (about 2400 miles). I don't know if consumption has yet leveled out. I was attempting to follow the aforementioned rev up/down, under load and in gear regimen during break-in (as well as not cruising at a consistent engine speed), so it'll be interesting to see if that paid off w/ a nice, snug ring/cylinder fit. Only intermittently saw the "traditional" poof of blue smoke upon startup.

Default My 01's about half that rate but it

took awhile to get there. My oil consumption was about where yours is now from the time the car had 3,000 miles until I got over 10,000 miles. Mine now has 24,000 and it burns about a half a quart every 1500-2000 which includes DE's. So with more miles you may see a further decline.

I'd say yours is "normal" but I know of others who's 02-03 burn almost no oil. There is a pretty wide variance car to car.
