Default Rear Trunk Latch Issue - Resolved

Hey Guys,

I felt the need to post this evening. You have all been so helpful over the years and very responsive to my questions when in need of guidance. This might help some of you out down the road. After 7 yrs of ownership I was somewhat forced to make the first update on my '01 TT. The factory head unit was on the fritz for the past yr or two, it would automatically switch to the radio when I listened to a CD and the CD player would act up at times. I always wanted Bluetooth capability in the car which made the ultimate decision to swap it out. I took it to a trusted friend to install the unit. Everything went fine with the setup. I’m happy with my decision to replace it!

After the install I noticed there was an audible sound when locking the car. I figured he disconnected the battery which caused this to happen. Then yesterday, two weeks after the install I realized the trunk latch would not release. I could hear a clicking sound, but it would not open. This is a first in my ownership. I thought it might be stuck considering I hand washed the car a few days back. I applied more pressure than I usually do to open the trunk and it still would not release. I went online to check if this was a known issue. I read one post that stated driving it would solve the issue. I decided to crank it up to see if this might resurrect the unlock function. Immediately after cranking I tried to open the trunk with no success. I let it run for 3-5 min which did the trick. I believe this is a security feature on the car.

My '99 E55 is similar in a way. The car requires a re-calibration of the windows and sunroof after disconnecting the battery. Something tells me our cars do not like being disconnected or the battery going dead. At the end of the day I hope this helps someone out. Thanks again for all your help to date!

Cheers,

-Rob

if you heard the click, the solenoid is actuating. I'm guessing you have another problem somewhere.
