Ideal road Racer?
>>> Wouldn't one be better off with something like a Winston Cup car that has been smoothed to perfection for 200mph. <<<
Alex,
The most consistent winner has been the old Home Depot # 20 car. Dave Golder, when he ran the Home Depot car in ORR always finished, always put up a 220 mph number and easily averaged very high 19x.00 mph! Dave also spent many , many thousands of dollars preparing for each run. Although not competitive against NASCAR type purpose cars some Porsches ( & Ruf Vin machines) do very well running 200+ mph with high 180 averages driving @ 7/10. New tires for each event and good preparation result in a fun, safe run at relatively low cost. Watt could drive to the event, change tires and after a sanity check could go run fast and have fun. OTOH, I am sure "Sideways Stephen" driving a Ruf prepared machine could smoke the Home Depot car on most technical ORR roads. No international glory there, so it won't happen. ORR is about safe fun, the trophy is worth about three bucks at the local pawn shop.

Sorry to bring things back to the original thread, but I was just at Newport Auto Center yesterday and they have at least 2 new turbos in stock and 1 or 2 more used ones.

"He has $$ to burn it would seem.. As long as he is enjoying life - thats all that matters.."
i don't doubt that he is, but am still wondering why the target price of $85K + sales tax if it's not to far off what he rec'd for his recently.

Watt,
You need to drive the SUPER RED BEAST definately not a compromise
and the fartherst thing from unresponsive. 2003 996 turbo Stage 5
the ultimate PORSCHE!!
IMHO of course!!

let me just say this-what he buys/spends is his (watt's) own business. it just seems a bit inconsistent spending several months telling everyone about his incoming gt3, then immediately trying to sell it, then now trying to buy another one, after having one a few weeks ago (a car that was ordered to spec). with all due respect, it doesn't make sense.

doc: As I recall watt's posts at the time he was just happier with the power & torque of the GT2 over the GT3 and wasn't going to keep both. Now he's looking for something even more powerful and possibly from Ruf. If he's buying new in that case he'll be waiting a while so perhaps he wants a GT3 to play with in the interim. It might not make much sense but we're talking about watt here and he's already stated he flips cars every 7 months or so and that doesn't make sense either.

Ruf Racer- Thanks for the insight. I don't find several thousand $ in maint. very unusual for 50 miles of wide open racing in a high power car, but I don't know about "many, many thousands" For the forseeable future, I'll stay with Vintage. PS Jon Ward offered me the passenger seat in a car he's prepping for ORR. I declined, but it's moot since I think he's got other irons in the fire at present. AS (Sorry for the OT)
