Question Is it safe to buy a chip without technical assistance on site ?

I am considering to install a chip ( GIAC? ) in my TT. I am leaving in Spain . I don't know of any dealer here. I would have to buy the chip in England or the nearest dealer ( Germany ? ). I wonder if it is wise decision to install a chip knowing that if any problem arises the nearest dealer will be...700 miles away !!

I also have to be sure that the spanish POrsche dealer will not be able to detect the chip modification or addition.

Any help ?

Don't worry about it. If it is a true GIAC dealer then you should not have a problem. I have done many ECUs in the UK and Australia, Middle East etc. The Key is to deal with a dealer that has a lot of ECU tuning experience with the TT. For example we have to know the area, gas, etc so that we can choose the proper parameters for your car and its geographical location.

If you are concerned about the detection and dealer aspect then consider the IBE switcher. This will allow you to put the car into stock mode at will.

Hope this helps.

Could not agree more...I recently got afriend who lives in Saudi to send his ECU to Stephen for GIAC level 2 upgrade...Car is running with no problems and Stephen even got me a special file to match the fuel and specs (Porsche makes Gulf spec crs for the region) of the car. I also know that if my friend ever needs anything Stephen will be there as he has always been...

Thanks for this fast answers. Now, the very last question that I am sure has been replied before ( I have searched for the answer but did not find a "precise" one: How will the "Turbo lag" feeling be. I have entered into GIAC web site and studied the power and torque curve graphics. They look a bit more extreme than the original Porsche TT. My TT is a Tiptronic one ( yes, I know all about the purist´s discussion on manual vs Tip ) and if I want to play with the toy, I put it in manual mode. I find the Turbo Lag feeling quite different depending on the gear I am using. If I am in 4th and 5th gear, the turbo lag is quite soft and non distrurbing. With third gear in short turns ( spanish rally mountains ), if I do not want any surprise, I have to keep the revs over 3.500 aprox. If not doing so, when raining, I can get into some difficulties...
What is the feeling with the GIAC chip ( I am considering the level 1 upgrade )
