There has never been a Porsche Turbo that's doesn't eventually become desirable. The 996t is the first water cooled production 911 turbo and is in my opinion a great looking car that will get its due.

I think its working against it right now, but I think *at some point* it will also be heralded as the only 911 to not have round headlights. That along with first water cooled to me suggests it will eventually be worth a good chunk. I think we might have to wait until all the cheap non-turbo variants suffering from IMS induced depreciation arent common though.
Some of these numbers are crazy at auction. I had an opportunity to pickup a very similar car with factory aero for way less than this one a few months ago.
If you know of a 10k mi 2001 with aero package for considerably less than 51k pass on the info. 51k is a very good price if the car checked out especially in those colors.
Crash yes it will take time as it has with all turbos including the 993-930 etc. Right now you mostly have bottom feeders that will further deplete the numbers as they are used up with little care and tossed.

$51k would be very low for a sub-10k miles car even if it were purple with grey interior. that it sold that low with those beautiful colors is almost depressing.
Auctions can be a tricky place to sell a car and usually you hear about the high and the low. The only reason you hear so much hype about pricing here is that there are a lot of people looking to get the Porsche Turbo name on the cheap. If you know anything this is nothing new and happens with most sports cars to some extent. Its far worse with a car of this complexity and part/repair cost as many will either do shoddy repairs or sell car quickly. Going by picture my gut says the blue 51k car is not that clean or well taken care of= but that's just a guess nothing more.
I don't think over $50k is a fluke on these particular cars, there were two 996TT at this auction (besides the 996TT converted to 997TT, which is a special case). The car I posted on 1-22-16 sold for $54,000 at same auction ... I've seen it go both ways at these auctions, last year at Barret (with No Reserve) a Black GT2 (which is listed in OP) sold for $82k which now does not seem feasible at all since they seem to be getting $150k plus now.
