We all know a random blog trumps direct knowledge and experience.

http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread....n-the-Internet

The Volt is quite similar to the Porsche hybrids now on the road in terms of behavior. Default is to use the battery first, but there are two driving modes (out of 4) that invoke the internal combustion engine. There is no 'electric only' mode in the Volt or any other hybrid I know of, but I guess if you drained all the fuel, you could create it. Just don't add fuel and you should be able to range-limit yourself.

BTW, when I got my Volt, about 20% of the people I know told me what a bad decision it was because of disinformation in the media (that's never happened before). Now, three of my friends involved in Porsches have identical Volts.

Third party supposition about why I got one is interesting, but I was using a Jeep XJ to haul the parts I use in Porsche restorations, and I wanted to get better than 17 MPG in a 'work truck.' The Volt fits an entire 911 front end in the back with the seats down - actually more space than an XJ. And as mine is a PZEV, I get to use the HOV lanes. And I'm averaging 126 MPG.

So, to the OP, hybridization of the Porsche lineup doesn't worry me at all.

Right; the electric only, or all-electric, or pure electric (take your pick) mode of operation.

You don't seem to understand what electric only means. It is when the car's propulsion is solely electric. No internal combustion engine is used.

This from the Chevrolet website (describing the Volt)...

The "Volt achieves 98 MPGe for electric only operation" (my bold).
