Removing cassette holder for wallet/cell phone spot
Hi everyone. I'm wondering if there's an OEM part available to replace the obsolete cassette holder that is in my car right now. I would like to have somewhere to put my wallet and cell in while I'm driving so it doesn't bounce all over...
The car is a 2001 TT.

There is an open slot kind of part that you can get from the dealer - I replaced the CD holder with one on my 996TT. If I recall it was fairly cheap (in the Porsche scheme of things); the old piece popped out and the new compartment slid and snapped right into place. It's a 1 minute job.

Suncoast sells them. I just bought one for my new turbo. Check http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...de=996ttintacc
You can remove the CD holder by opening them all, grabbing them together, and giving it a brief tug. Will probably work for yours as well.
Good luck

My 996TT didn't have that center console, so I bought one from a Porsche Salvage yard ($50!) but I needed the batwing trim piece, which I got from Suncoast. Suncoast also sell the upper and lower trays, be sure you order the upper tray to replace the cassette holder. Fortunately mine came with the CD holder so that's still of somewhat limited use.

I wanted to do the same mod on mine. I got the urge last week, but got too cheap to spend the $50+ for a cheap plastic bin, LOL
I was waiting to find a used one on e-bay for cheap, or on the forums.
If I don't find one for cheap in the next few weeks, I'll probably break down and just buy one. It's not that big of a deal, it's just the point. It bothers me knowing that not too long ago the bins were a little over $30, and now they are over $50, closer to $60 shipped.

I had this mod done years ago. Now go the next logical step and add Bluettoth connectivity to your CR-220 radio:

I did it, and now I enjoy wireless Pandora, internet radio, etc. Kinivio controller fits perfectly in cubby, hidden from view.
You put your i-Phone in there, good to go.
