Default Engine Out Again 2nd This Year!

My mechanic removed my engine last Friday to ship my transmission to be rebuilt again for the 2nd time this year for 2nd gear pop-out warranty issue after only 3000 miles. Anyway what else should I replace or check while my engine is out? This is what I've done this in the last 9 months to my 2001 996TT 6spd with 42,000 miles W/softronic 1.1 bar tune. The worst part of this whole thing is I have an oil leak and my mechanic still cant find the source of the leak I am going tomorrow to look for myself I hoping it's not my head gasket as I know this is very rare.

You could install a GT3 style oil dipstick and dipstick filler tube.

It's funny you mention that I want to do this mod and was searching this weekend couldn't find the part # or DYI. By chance would you know the procedure and part# needed?

Thanks-

your oil leak will likely be emanating from the top of the motor.

Any performance mods done to your car? Or planned? Maybe Turbo inlet pipes. Injectors. GT2 clutch slave conversion. My clutch slave is leaking like a sieve! I'm planning to do these when I drop my engine along with your listed items.

I was really hoping today when I went down to look we would see the leak right away but not my luck. I told him to go ahead take everything off the top of the engine to find the source. Here are a few pictures I took this morning of the oil on top of the engine.

Only tune, exhaust, 997 SSK, diverter valves, colder plugs, F-hose kit, and Sachs 2.5 clutch kit only mods I have. No plans for any other mods at this time. I have a bad left leg so GT2 slave conversion is to heavy already tried it in another car.

Yeah a few years ago my electronic oil checker stopped working I had to replace my gauge cluster computer board for $750 I always thought it was stupid not to have a dip stick. Oil changes will be lot easier no longer will I have wait to get to temperature to check oil or add more if needed.

There is no reason to not have a dipstick= its pretty much fail proof.

Sure there is, it's known as a Rube Goldberg device. Taking something extremely simple and complicating it. I like the fact that you can't check the oil until it is warmed up. Nice to know you're out of oil after running it for 15 minutes.

Yeah thanks that's whole another issue I am not looking forward to hearing. My tranny should arrive tomorrow so maybe I will have answer whats going on in my tranny box by early next week sometime.

Yeah I hate drips on my floor too but what I hate more is when a Porsche Tech tells me leaks/sweating is normal and I am like no actually its not it hasn't leaked the first 6 years i owned it lol.
