Default TT stock tires

which one is better that came with the car?

Michelin Pilot Sport
Continental sport contact2
Pirelli P-zero

although i like the look & the ride of Conti, but i want to know more about the Michelin Pilot Sport factory put on to the car because it has different design pattern than regular Pilot sport.

i don't like the P-zero's look, especially the side wall, but they should be nice too.

Actually, the 996 Turbo is now also being equipped with the Bridgestone S-02A at the factory. If I had my choice, I would be looking for those.

Did any factory TTs come with Michelin Pilot Sport? I thought only the GT2's came with Pilot Sport? Are you thinking of the new Pilot Sport 2 on the GT3's? I don't think the Pilot Sport (original) come in the 295/30-18 size.

But if you're looking for the ultimate street tire, go for the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups! one word: AWESOME!!!

i actually saw the Pilot sport on the TT sitting in the lot. the tire pattern is not typical Pilot Sport pattern though, it's more like sport cup pattern.

I think those are the new Pilot Sport 2...they have a pattern similar to the Pilot Sport Cup and have the new sidewall design. This should be a fine street tire.

Viken...Any reason why Porsche choose the old S-02A over the new S-03?

The S-02A is not old. It is an OEM tire which has been installed on some cars since 2000. A great maximum performance tire and much better than the S-03.

Viken...

Didn't mean to call them old, I just thought the designation "3" would mean it's the new tire of the Bridgestore family.

I agree, the SO-2's are a very fine tire as I've had them on my Boxster.

What is the "A" designation for the SO-2A? Is that something to specify Porsche OEM tire?

Thanks

Was the TT new? I did not realize that they were offered. When I purchased my vehicle, they only came with the Conti's or Perelli's. My car came with the Conti's and I actually had them switched with another turbo so that I could have the Pirelli's. On tirerack, not that they are the authority, but, the Pirelli has better dry traction and handling. The treadwear rating is much less on the pirelli. Also, and it no longer seems to be the case, but Tirerack used to have these tires in different categories. The Pirelli was listed under the better "max performance" category and Conti was listed in "ultra High performance" with the Dunlop 8080's and other 2nd tier tires. Anyway, just my $.02

The S-02A is completely different from the S-02. It was developped as an OEM tire and is used on Porsche's and Ferrari's only. At least for now.

The Conti appears to be a better all-around street tire, but haven't tried it at the track. My Pirelli's were ruined after just a few hard laps on a hot day. I won't be trying them again. The wear on the Conti's seems much better- after about 10,000 miles they still look good- probably half gone. AS
