UMW stage 2B dyno results.......

Engine was removed yesterday and it is currently fully disassembled. No real problems with the engine. IMS thrust bearing showed some wear. Crank thrust bearings also showed some wear due to the clutch interlock (the interlock has recently been removed which allows you to start the car with clutch released just like on all the ROW cars). Rod bearing showed a little distress but nothing major. Valve guides showed some wear. Pistons and liners were like new...
What about the chain, is it worn or stretched?

EDIT: "100+ track hours, 50K miles total..." (my bad for not re-reading the thread)
Curious about the thrust bearing wear. You usually see more wear on these in an air cooled motor also. I presume removing the interlock is to allow the motor to be started when in neutral with clutch engaged so there is no preload on the crank from the pressure plate? Might have to consider that change on my car also.

correct guys, removing the clutch interlock relieves thrust-related(from clutch) dry bearing cranking on fire-up ....very simple mod, did mine within 24hours of ownership...but remember there is liability involved, do at own risk.

Nice, very good report considering the track time and power your putting out. I guess the removing the interlock earlier would have saved the wear? I heard about this from a 993turbo owner and now thinking I should do this now.

Excellent report. Do you have an idea how many track hours/days you had on the motor?

disconnect the 2 wires from the switch here, and reconnect the wires together(various ways)

Gearbox was reassembled with the new 997GT3 1-3 mainshaft and sealed up today. Since everything was apart, 4th gear synchros were changed also. From what I was told, everything looked to be in amazingly good shape considering the time and use. Very minimal wear on the synchros and only some pitting on one of the main bearing races. Third was starting to show some fatigue on a couple of the teeth even though my untrained eye could not spot anything. Evidently would have gone another track season.

Sorry about the slow reply but I don't frequent 6Speed much anymore so figured I would reply over here instead. For this video of his record lap of High Plains Raceway just by going with the description in the video he will be running 275 sized A6 or BFG-R1S. Weight says 2900 lbs with driver and 315 whp.
It seems at nationals at Sonoma he ran a smaller 245 sized Hoosier A7 to run less weight (2870 lbs) and more power (325 whp).
The best part about NASA is the potential contingency prizes in tires if there are enough competitors. Unfortunately TT1 being at the pointy end of the classing makes it hard for lots of competitors in class for the Rocky Mountain Region. Still fun to shoot for the TT1 and overall Nasa TT track record and get your name in the record book. Keep the updates coming!

Heads are done.... Note how the stock intake manifold does not properly match up with the head. Todd went the extra step by match porting the intake manifold to the head for a seamless transition. You can also see how much thinner the intake manifold wall is after his port work as he opened it up to funnel more air directly to the head.
Anyone considering getting some Porsche headwork done, I would highly highly recommend Todd McKenzie. Turnaround time including shipping was a little over 2 weeks and I told Todd there is no need to rush it as I was out of town anyway. Todd said he can normally turn it in 1 week or so. I think the numbers speak for themselves. The % improvement over stock for both the intake and exhaust side is calculated in 0.050" increments and shown in the two columns on the far right. You can see a huge improvement in flow with an average intake improvement of 78.5% (27%min-120%max) and an average exhaust improvement of 68.7% (26%min-120%max). Keep in mind, valves are stock OEM size as we decided to stick with those as opposed to going bigger. Todd added his own springs, guides, etc..
