Greetings and hoping for overrev advice.

There are lots of drivers ed events in the Chicago area - join the local PCA chapter and you'll learn all about your car and how to drive it fast and well. These things can go seriously fast in a hurry; $ spent to learn how to handle it is well spent.

^^^ Yes mate, great idea there ^^
I have had 2 very dangerous situations in coming from a BMW background to Porsche. In the last month the scariest was hitting some gravel on a private track (we missed seeing it on a walk by) at about 110 mph and I slipped and skidded a bit and could not brake well into and around a corner.... glad the alignment Tim Siatchitano did was perfect and my brakes are so good.....
Going from any car 300 hp or so to even a mildly tuned 500 hp turbo is fraught with a decent learning curve
danko ENJOY

I had this same question when I purchased mine this year. The mechanics I talked to told me that generally any damage resulting from over revs occurs immediately, or very shortly thereafter. 3rd party info, but hopefully it eases your mind some.
You're down the street from Autobahn, and not too far from Mid-America and Putnam Park. Have fun.

the rev limiter is a beautiful thing, since every time i hit it at 7200rpm, i wince for as long as my car won't "go" lol and yet i thank stuttgart it is there.
i think type 2's are overrated lol. as long as there aren't too many.

This was posted on the 997TT forum..
Sad, the engine sounds like it briefly hit 8500-9K for a split second.

The owner of the car was so calm..
Starting with this engine, there is type 1 thru type 6 overRevs reported. He most likely registered values in each range.

I'm gonna guess "Fantasyland" because the everything else I've read tells me that the mapping upper revs into 6 ranges didn't start on the 911 until the 997 ECU's.
But I'm here to learn as much as contribute, so if this is one of those times, great.

EDIT: Annnnnnnd he was driving a 997. LOL Gotcha.
But the 996 IS just two ranges, yes?

Yes only 2 ranges for the 996TT. Please note that these ranges vary between models.. Bare with me.. Based on the info that you have seen, where would you guys put the values.. There is a lot of misinformation with the numbers. Please note that there are ranges.. A to B C to D..

I've read that for the 997 Turbo that
Range 1 is 6800 to 6999
Range 2 is 7000 to 7199
Range 3 is 7200 to 7399
Range 4 is 7400 to 7899
Range 5 is 7900 to 8999
Range 6 is everything 9000 and above
But, lest anyone make the mistake I did earlier in this thread, we're talking about the 997 turbo here, NOT the 996.

Your numbers are correct. Porsche list it as >6800 and <7000 for the Type 1 997TT
For reference the 997GT3 >11000 Type 6 begin...
For the 996TT:
Type 1 >6750 and <7250
Type 2 >7250

Type 2 >7250

so here's a dumb question. given the rev 2's log at 7250? does the rev limiter merely stop the motor from additional revolutions ( sure feels like a kill switch to me lol ) while registering the ones that were created by simply hitting the limiter??
which if true would explain the increase in rev 2's logged in ecu on cars with the redline raised. yes/no/maybe?
