Turbo lag?

Between the two cars I drove, the C2S seemed faster than the Turbo. My girlfriend drove both and felt the same way. I posted this thread to see if there is an actual explanation for that to see if I should rule out the Turbo.
It appears my experience was an unusual one and I welcome that with open arms considering I'd rather buy a Turbo in the first place.

Keep in mind, if I thought it made sense I would never have posted this thread. I'm trying to get the opinions of more informed people then myself so I know how to proceed.

You said the car has lots of lag and felt slower than a C2S, this doesn't sound right at all. I'd suggest that you test drive another Turbo. A healthy 996TT should feel quick.

I have not driven a 997 C2, but have driven 964s, 993s, and 996s as C2s (NA an rwd). They are lighter and more nimble. That may have been what you are feeling. Realize I am on my 2nd 996TT, so there is a reason I came back. These cars respond very well to a good tune ( I rec UMWs), and a few simple suspension mods, and they are tough to beat.
As others have suggested, your experience may have been with a faulty 996TT, but my guess it is mostly you. Sounds like you came out of the corner a gear too high. Very correctable. Spend some time at a Porsche DE, and you will get this straightened out

Another thing about driving a turbo, you need to wind it out to get the most from the car. My 996tt is a Tip and I thought it was sluggish. Then I really got on it and WOW! what a transformation. If you are lugging it around town on a test drive, you won't really experience what the turbo can do.

I would presume if you're looking at both, you have driven a 997.1 C2S? If this is true that just looking at the numbers tells the story.
997.1 C2S
Weight: 1505 - 1575 kg. (3318 lbs. - 3472 lbs.)
Power output 355 hp (261 kW)
At engine speed 6600 rpm
Max torque 295 ft lb (400 Nm)
Peak at engine speed 4600 rpm
996TT
Weight: 1540 kg. (3395 lbs.)
Power output 420 hp (310 kW)
At engine speed 5500 rpm
Max torque 760 ft lb (560 Nm)
Flat from engine speed 2500 rpm to 4800 rpm
With mods you can squeeze a bit more power out of an NA engine but short of FAI there is very little you can do to up the torque.

I would never buy a C4S, C, C2S or any other incarnation of them..... maybe you could look at used GT3 (996) if you want a N/A car but for mind once you get out on those back roads in CT and put your foot down in even a 1 bar tuned 996TT you will love it far more than a N/A Porsche car.
DO this test - Take out a 996TT, put it in 3rd gear and put your foot down from 2000 rpm to redline...... your head will snap back and you will never think of a C2S or whatever again
Good luck mate and if you are ever in the Hamptons, PM me and I will take you for a spin in a tuned 996 TTS

If that's the case, the turbo you drove had an issue. Or the C2S has a supercharger or something major done to it. On a track where I drive, I hit about 185-190kmh in a 997 C2S and about 225-230kmh in the tuned X50. There is a major difference between the two cars usually.

The 996 Turbo when it is not on BOOST is every bit as quick out of a corner as the C2S or C4S I have driven in the right gear.... my car is scary quick in 2nd gear (RWD) out of corners and will boost up very quickly on the stock K24 Turbos. I have a Eurodyne pro tune by Tim941NYC and AWE race exhaust etc.

FWIW I think you have to rev the car higher than people are saying, especially in a tip. These cars have long gears so don't be afraid to downshift, you can go over 70 in 2nd.. My car is tuned and still feels more 'laggy' than what I'm used to. Stick above 4000 and you'll be more in the power band you want.

Couple words: DOWN SHIFT = No Lag
You and your girlfriend were obviously in the wrong gear in the turbo. Run both cars at 3500rpms and do a pull in 2nd gear.
If you lived in NY I would give u a ride in mine in another week or two but that baby is a little bit of a freak in power levels lol.
What's the goal with the cars? Modding for power and handling or just a nice weekend driver?? The turbo is addictive, the C2S you will be tired of in another couple months. There is no comparison between the two.
There are 1500hp Turbos out there, 600whp is also easily attained with simple bolt ons. The C2S is a driving miss daisy car. Both fun cars since they are a Porsche but no comparison. You have a Metzger race engine in the Turbo, NO comparison.

That being said, I want to get the car that will be the most fun to drive. I had always told myself i'd buy a Turbo as my first 911 but once I drove it I was left wanting more.
With all of the advice i've received my plan is to drive another 996 Turbo and see how it compares to the first.
I won't be buying for at least 5-6 months if not more depending on how long it takes me to find what i'm looking for... so i'm not in any rush.
Where in NY do you live? I'm in North Stamford so depending on where you are I could be very close... it's about 5 minutes to the NY line from my house.

I am on Long Island in the middle of it. About an hour away. If the car is mainly for a daily driver then get the c2s, if its weekend fun car and a couple times a week you drive then the Turbo. There are a few stock daily driver turbo guys but it isn't the norm from what I have seen.
Plus the parts on the turbo are more expensive then the c2s. Especially if you will be going high mileage.
Honestly, me personally I would never daily drive a Porsche, the "Porsche Tax" is just stupid. I was flabbergasted at pricing on stuff. Also any major work they need to drop the engine which costs money. Unless you will get an extended warranty then it doesn't matter as much.
Overall good luck, there are plenty of cars out there I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

The goal of the car is for it to be my daily driver 80-90% of the time. I'm perfectly comfortable driving in bad weather so the only times I wouldn't take it out is if we get a snow storm or it's bad enough i'm nervous someone is going to rear end me (which is really a possibility regardless of weather obviously).
