Default transmission drop

Hi,
In the past I have pulled the engine and transmission as a single unit from the car but I was wondering if anyone has experience, or is aware, whether it is possible to pull the transmission with the engine in place. If so, is it a considerable hassle?
Thx,
Jay

I have done it to replace my clutch. From what I have read, dropping the tyranny is far less hassle than dropping both the engine and tranny together. Found some good step by step instructions on line. Did the clutch job by myself over a weekend.

yes i also dropped the tranny a couple of times while leaving engine in place. You need to have the right tools though, i wouldn't do it laying on my back.

With a lift and 2 transmission jack it can be done and is much less work than removing the engine.

A few months ago when I had my Turbo in for an RMS the tech supported the engine and just removed the transmission. Saved a considerable -- I'd guess -- time and money.
