Default Hankook's feel a bit sloppy

Just put new Hankook Ventus V12 evos on my '03 TT and they feel a bit sloppy at highway+ speeds ... hoping that they feel better after the break-in period folks have been talking about. And my garage smells like new tires.

Give it about 500 miles and then make a judgment - mine seemed to get more predictable around that number. I've been happy with my set, although I admit that I only drive at about 6/10ths.

What are your tire pressures? Did you check them after they were installed? Been running those on my S4 for 2 years and I feel they are real stable at speed.

I had the same feeling put on some mileage it will go away. Its due to the tread depth. They are pretty sticky.

+1
Took my car on a pretty lengthy trip with some excellent roads. They didn't feel the best on the way there, but it was like a light switch when they came in on the way back. Give em a few miles.

Default Old PS2s

Was running very old PS2s (on car when I bought it last month) . . . they were too hard, though, as the fronts were 6 years old and the rears were shot.

Will check, but will also give them some mileage to break-in ...

I run the same tires. I was surprised at how they perform; hard to beat for the price when running 19" diameters.

Coming off of warn tires with no lateral tread movement into an open treaded tire like the Hankook will feel quite different. The Hankook has a bit more tread squirm than some other tires out there, and they will take a bit of time to get used to. It takes about 500 miles to wear the mold release out of the rubber compound. They are probably a bit slippery in colder mornings (40's) near San Fran right now also, so please exercise caution when driving them in colder conditions.

that's what i want in a tire! one that a tire pro recommends "caution" using while new lol. that's just the kind of endorsement, that money can't buy.

of ALL the things to skimp on on a porsche turbo. tires shouldn't be one of them.

If not mistaken they are summer tires hence the reason for the 40 degree comment. Michelin PS2s are also summer tires and have the same effect in cooler weather!

I have about 1000 miles on a set and they do have a ton of grip and ride pretty decently. I notice mine "rumble " for a few miles if the car hasn't been driven for a couple of days; almost like a flat spot. Once they have a few miles on them they seem to warm up and the rumble goes away.

This is true for all tires. Not just the value segment. All tires need a few hundred miles to scrub-in and get the mold release worn off.
